Rep. Gene Pelowski, DFL-Winona, and Linda Pfeilsticker of Wabasha became the first candidates to officially file in state races, in districts 31A and 28B, respectively.
In Winona County’s District 3 — for a seat held by the retiring Jerry Heim — challengers Mena Kaehler and Rudie Spitzer registered. District 4 commissioner David Stoltman also filed.
The filing period for state and some local offices runs through July 15.
Pelowski is seeking his 12th consecutive term in District 31A, which covers part of Winona and Houston counties.
Rhett Zenke of Winona has established a campaign committee to seek the seat as a Republican, according to the Minnesota Campaign Finance Board Web site.
District 28B Democrats have again endorsed Pfeilsticker, who narrowly lost the seat to Rep. Steve Drazkowski, R-Wabasha, in a special election last August.
Drazkowski has said he’ll run again in 28B, which covers northern Winona County and parts of Wabasha and Goodhue counties.
Another rematch appears set in District 31B — covering Houston and part of Fillmore County — where incumbent Rep. Ken Tschumper, DFL-La Crescent, has said he’ll run again. In April, Republicans endorsed former Rep. Greg Davids for the seat. Tschumper beat Davids in a narrow race in 2006.
