Legion baseball roundup: Warren's home run lifts La Crosse

Luke Warren finished off an unbelievable comeback with an unbelievable hit Saturday to give the La Crosse American Legion baseball team an 11-10 win over Mahtomedi at the Winona Legion Classic on Saturday.

La Crosse was down three runs heading into the seventh, and it was all but over when Mahtomedi got the first two outs of the inning in order.

Then the unthinkable happened after a J.J. Blaschke RBI single.

John Munson struck out to end the game, but reached on a dropped third strike. Mahtomedi’s catcher threw way short of first base, and the ball couldn’t get scooped up for the out.

Warren came up next and blasted a three-run, walk-off home run. Warren was 3-for-4 in the game with four RBIs.

La Crosse found itself down 8-0 after two and a half innings after Mahtomedi scored six runs on five hits, two errors, two walks and a hit-batsman in the top of the third.

La Crosse got one back in the third, four more in the fourth and one each in the fifth and sixth innings before the crazy seventh.

Sam Pederson was 2-for-4 with two RBIs and a stolen base for La Crosse, while Blaschke went 2-for-5 with an RBI and a stolen base.

Tom Dorn and Brian Houdek were both 2-for-4 for Mahtomedi. Houdek had two RBIs.

The two teams combined for 22 hits and 12 errors.

For the second-consecutive game, a Rochester pitcher came through with a no-hitter.

After Derek Hovick no-hit La Crosse for the Patriots in seven innings on Friday, teammate Andrew Roble got the no-hit win in five innings on Saturday.

Roble struck out three and walked two for Rochester, which scored six runs in the top of the fifth.

Jordan Rishavy was 3-for-3 with a triple and three runs scored for the Patriots, while teammate Ben Moen went 3-for-4 with three RBIs and a double.

Brett Gwaltney, Joe Moen and Kris Long all had two hits. Gwaltney and Long both had two RBIs.
