Man shot outside Brooklyn Center hotel identified

BROOKLYN CENTER, Minn. (AP) — The Hennepin County Medical Examiner has identified the man shot and killed outside a Brooklyn Center hotel earlier this week.

The death of Mohamed Muse Jama, 31, of Minneapolis, has been ruled a homicide by gunshot to the head, according to the medical examiners office.

Jama was found dead at the Crowne Plaza Hotel's front entrance about 4:30 a.m. Wednesday, police said. They believe Jama was targeted, but they don't think it was drug or gang-related.

Mohamed Jama's brother, 27-year-old Arie Jama, was shot and killed six months ago in Minneapolis.

Somali community leader Saeed Fahia told the Star Tribune Mohamed Jama was a respected mentor and youth basketball coach in the Twin Cities immigrant community.
