Baseball roundup: Howe, Hubbel lift Blair-Taylor

ALMA, Wis. — Lucas Howe went 2-for-3 with a three-run home run and Buddy Hubbel struck out three over five innings to lead Blair-Taylor High School’s baseball team past Alma 5-4 Tuesday in the Dairyland Conference.

B-T’s four-run fourth inning, which included Howe’s home run, gave the Wildcats a 5-0 lead.

Alma scored four runs in the bottom of the sixth, but Howe came in and pitched a scoreless seventh to preserve the win and pick up the save.

B-T’s Hank Kujak went 2-for-4 with an RBI and Nate Nandory 2-for-4 with two doubles.

Tim Ruff went 1-for-3 with two RBIs and pitched 11/3 scoreless innings in relief for Alma.

West Salem 19, C-FC 1

FOUNTAIN CITY, Wis. — West Salem scored eight runs in the top of the first inning and cruised past Cochrane-Fountain City.

The Panthers scored nine runs in the fourth and added two more to complete the rout in the fifth. West Salem pounded out 15 hits to C-FC’s five.

West Salem’s Brian Wright went 3-for-4 with five RBIs, while T.J. Holven went 2-for-4 with two RBIs and pitched four innings for the win.

Tyler Keil went 2-for-2 for C-FC (0-6, 0-5).

Eleva-Strum 16, Lincoln 11

ALMA CENTER, Wis. — Alex Dodge went 2-for-5 and Grant Johnson 3-for-5 to lead E-S, which scored all of its runs in the third, fourth and fifth innings combined.

Gabe Janke, Travis Janke and Tim Leis had two hits apiece for Lincoln. Leis had a home run and three RBIs.

Mel.-Min. 10, Arcadia 0

MELROSE, Wis. — Melrose-Mindoro’s Derrick Nordstrom pitched a complete-game, three-hitter to pick up the win.

Nordstrom struck out four and walked three over seven innings.

W-K 6, D-E 2

EYOTA, Minn. — Wabasha-Kellogg’s Logan Stuhr struck out seven in 52/3 innings as the Falcons opened the summer season with a win over Dover-Eyota.

Jordan Dick had a double an an RBI and Chris Sill had two RBI’s for W-K.

The Falcons pulled away with four runs in the top of the sixth. Eric Sandstrom highlighted the rally with a two-run squeeze bunt.
