Julius J. Justin Jr.
FOUNTAIN CITY, Wis. — Julius J. Justin Jr., of Fountain City died Sunday, June 1, 2008, at Lake Winona Manor.

Julius Joseph was born Jan. 8, 1915, in Buffalo County, Wis., to Julius Sr. and Mary (Kindhammer) Justin. In April 1936, he married Ida Elaine Schmitt at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, Fountain City, and she preceded him in death Oct. 30, 2004.

He was a lifelong area resident and was formerly employed at Fountain City Brewery and H & F Roettiger, both of Fountain City. He served in World War II in the U.S. Army and spent some time in the Philippines. He was honorably discharged in February 1946. He was a member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church and American Legion Post 56, Cochrane-Fountain City, Wis.

He is survived by four children, Kathleen Cyert of Fountain City, Allan (Sharon) Justin of St. Charles, Minn., Kenneth (Jean Langowksi) Justin of Andover, Minn., and Brian (Deb) Justin of Dover, Minn.; 17 grandchildren; 29 great-grandchildren; three sisters, Vi Mathias of St. Paul, Elaine Bennett of Phoenix, and LaVern (Zennin) Wasielewski of St. Louis, son-in-law, Joe Miller of Marana, Ariz.; and other relatives.

He was preceded in death by his wife; parents; daughter, Karen Miller; son, Larry Justin; grandson, Bradley Falls; three sisters, Frieda Duellman, Marie Rebhahn and Alvina Reuter; two brothers, Sylvester and Alyious Justin; and a son-in-law, Ray Cyert.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:30 a.m., today, June 4, at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, Fountain City, with the Rev. Rick Roberts officiating. Interment will be at St. Mary’s Cemetery, Fountain City, with military burial rites provided by American Legion Post 56, Cochrane-Fountain City.

Visitation was held from 5 to 7 p.m., Tuesday, June 3, at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, Fountain City. Visitation today begins at 9:30 a.m. at the church. Parish prayers were held Tuesday at 6:45 p.m. at the church.

Casket bearers will be the grandchildren.

Louis ‘Louie’ Ludens

Louis “Louie” Ludens, 79, of Harmony passed away on June 1, 2008, at Winneshiek Medical Center in Decorah, Iowa, of congestive heart failure. Friends may call from 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday evening at the Lindstrom Funeral Home in Harmony, Minn. At his request, no other services are planned. The family will have a private burial service at the Greenleafton Cemetery. Pastor Peter Rein of the New Life Victory Church will officiate.

Louis was born April 2, 1929, in Avon, S.D., the son of Peter and Nellie (Palsma) Ludens. At a young age he moved with his family to a farm near Lime Springs, Iowa, and later to the Greenleafton, Minn., area. On Sept. 30, 1950, he married Marilyn Mc Kay in Greenleafton. They lived and farmed in the Greenleafton area for many years until retiring and moving to Harmony in 1992.

He enjoyed hunting and was a lifetime member of the NRA. He also enjoyed riding his motorcycle. He was a kind a loving husband and father and also enjoyed his grandchildren. He was a member of the Greenleafton Reformed Church for many years. At the time of his death, he was a member of New Life Victory Church in Harmony.

He is survived by his wife, Marilyn, of Harmony; two daughters, Janice (Ronald) Sjoberg of Queen Creek, Ariz., and Janell Richardson of Cresco, Iowa, a son James (Gail) of St. Charles, Minn.; a son-in-law Dennis (Nancy) Beldner of St. Louis, seven grandchildren; one step-grandson; and one sister, Helen (John) Flolo of Gilroy, Calif.

He was preceded in death by a daughter and two grandchildren; an infant brother; and his parents.

Marguerite Florence Baab

ROLLINGSTONE, Minn. — Marguerite Florence Baab, 93, of 146 Main St., Rollingstone, died Friday, May 30, 2008, at Lake Winona Manor.

Marguerite was born Feb. 3, 1915, at Minneiska, to Frederic and Hazel (Linstrum) Hartman. She married Harris C. Baab on Dec. 29, 1941, in Rushford, Minn.

She worked at the Fountain Car Wash and as a route carrier for the Winona Daily News. She liked to do “Search A Word.”

She was preceded in death by her husband on Aug. 9, 1991; son, Gary C. Baab on Dec. 23, 2004; and three sisters, Eleanor Preston, Eileen Doyle and Kathleen Turner.

Marguerite is survived by two grandchildren, Becky (John) Kouba of Winona; and Todd (Susie) Baab of Wabasha; three great-grandchildren, Hunter, Austin and Adrianna Baab; and special niece, Lois (Bernie) Schaller of Oakdale, Minn.

Private family services were held at St. Mary’s Catholic Cemetery, Minneiska.

Martin-Myhre Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Linda W. Hass

Linda W. Hass was born Nov. 26, 1916, in Beach, N.D., to Ferdinand and Laura (Runge) Erdmann. She was baptized in April 1917 in Beach and confirmed in June 1930 at St. John’s Evangelical Lutheran Church, Hart, Minn.

Linda married Walter Hass on July 29, 1953, at St. Martin’s Parsonage in Winona. Linda was a talented seamstress, an avid reader and liked canning produce from the garden. She and Walter loved going to the stockcar races and watching her son, Fred (Butch) race.

Linda died Monday, June 2, 2008, at Lake Winona Manor, at the age of 91 years. Survivors include her children, Elizabeth Lubinski of Winona, Fred (Carole) Prudoehl of Winona, Mary (Walton) Haeussinger of Fountain City, Wis., and Janet (Ronald) Nelson of Holmen, Wis.; eight grandchildren; two step-grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; two sisters-in-law, Alice Hendrickson of Plainview, and Vivian Howland of Grand Forks, N.D.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Walter Hass; two sisters; one brother; and two infant grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, June 6, at St. Martin’s Evangelical Lutheran Church, with the Rev. Vernon Kettner officiating. Burial will be in Woodlawn Cemetery, Winona.

Visitation will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday, June 5, at Martin-Myhre Funeral Home, and 10 to 11 a.m. before the service at the church on Friday.

Pallbearers will be her grandsons, Kevin Lubinski, Michael Prudoehl, Keith Haeussinger, Richard Nelson, Timothy Nelson and Peter Mouseth.

Memorials may be directed to St. Martin’s Evangelical Lutheran Church — Organ Fund, or donor’s choice.

Alfred N. Zimmer

MONDOVI, Wis. — Alfred N. Zimmer, 78, of Mondovi, formerly of Lookout, Wis., died Monday, June 2, 2008, after a hard-fought battle with cancer at the American Lutheran Home in Mondovi.

He was born July 26, 1929, on the family farm in Spring Valley, Wis., to Edward and Anna (Seipel) Zimmer. Alfred graduated from Spring Valley High School and then attended UW-River Falls for one year. He married Audrey Lee on Sept. 10,1960, in South Milwaukee, Wis.

Alfred served in the U.S. Army from 1951 to 1953 in Korea and was a lifelong member of the Gilmanton American Legion Post 264. He worked for Zignego Construction Co. for 30 years and he and his family operated Lookout Store for many years. Alfred was an avid woodworker, gardener, hunter, fisherman and card player. He also was a great Brewers and Packers fan.

He was a member of Sacred Heart of Jesus Catholic Church and the Gilmanton Community Club.

Alfred is survived by his wife, Audrey Zimmer of Mondovi; five children, Dan (Gert) Zimmer of Sparta, Susan (Eric) Matson of Sparta, Ken (Carrie) Zimmer of Sparta, Patricia (Stephen) Connelly of Eau Claire, Wis., and Jerome (Correen) Zimmer of Winona; eight grandchildren, Jon, Eric and Nick Scafe, Elizabeth Matson, Kyle Connelly, James and Aidan Bollom and Sarah Zimmer; two sisters, Marie Zimmer of Milwaukee and Norita (Gary) Parsons of Florida; two brothers, Bernard (Dolores) Zimmer of Greendale and Leonard (Ruthann) of Waukesha; and many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a grandson, Matthew Matson; three sisters, Sister Rose Ann Zimmer, Esther Cusatis, Theresa Zimmer; and three brothers, Cyril, Ronald and Edward Zimmer.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Thursday, June 5, at 1 p.m. at Sacred Heart of Jesus Catholic Church in Mondovi, with Father Jeffrey Burrill officiating. Burial will be in Gilmanton Cemetery with military rites conducted by Gilmanton American Legion Post 264.

Friends may call Thursday, June 5, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Sacred Heart of Jesus Catholic Church in Mondovi.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be given to either Sacred Heart of Jesus Catholic Church or Mondovi Garden Club.

Peter Gerald Neumann

JAMISON, Ala. — Peter Gerald Neumann, 52, of Jamison, died Monday, June 2, 2008. Peter was born Feb. 24, 1956, in Fountain City, Wis., to Casimer and Dorothy (Patzer) Neumann.

Peter is survived by his daughter, Jamie, who is stationed in Germany with the U.S. Army, and his wife, Rita, and children, Matthew, Adam and Josh; and one grandchild. He is also survived by four sisters, Vera (Burdene) Strain, and Nancy, Mary Jo and Jeannie (Tom) Langreck; five brothers, Bob (Carol), Casimer (Ann), John (Shirley), Paul (Glenda) and Joe (Wanda); aunts, uncles; and nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and two brothers, Kenneth and Marvin Neumann.

There will be a memorial service at his home in Jamison. Condolences or memorials may be directed to Rita Neumann, 2323 C.R. 163, Jamison, AL 35085.

DeWayne Allen Doebbert

FOUNTAIN CITY, Wis. — DeWayne Allen Doebbert, 73, of Fountain City, died Sunday, June 1, 2008, at Lake Winona Manor.

He was born April 22, 1935, in Oak Valley, Buffalo County, Wis., a son of the late John and Elfrieda (Bielefeldt) Doebbert.

He attended and graduated from the Cochrane High School with the class of 1953. He later served his country in the United States Army from 1958 until his honorable discharge in 1960. Wayne then served in the Army Reserve for an additional four years. Wayne worked for many area farmers until his employment began with Reedy Construction of Galesville until his retirement.

Some of the activities that Wayne enjoyed included deer hunting and going to auctions.

Wayne will be sadly missed by his six siblings, Iva Putz of of Cochrane, Leland (Marilyn) Doebbert of Winona, Harley (Diane) Doebbert of Trempealeau, Wis., Neil (Dorothy) Doebbert of Wyoming, Minn., Gale (Carol) Doebbert of Winona, and Reathel (Gerald) Beisch of Algoma, Iowa; one sister-in-law, Doris Doebbert of Ettrick, Wis.; also by many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Besides his parents; two brothers, Stanley and Rodney; two sisters, Eunice Doebbert and Ardyth Schmidtknecht; and one infant brother preceded Wayne in death.

A memorial service will be held Saturday, June 7, at 11:30 a.m. at St. John’s United Church of Christ, with interim pastor Hugh Drennan officiating. Burial of cremains will be at Waumandee Public Cemetery. A memorial gathering for relatives and friends will be held at the church on Saturday two hours prior to the memorial service.

Kathleen Ellen Hundorf

Kathleen Ellen Hundorf, 74, of Winona died Sunday, June 1, 2008, at Lake Winona Manor.

Kathleen was born June 20, 1933, in Minneapolis, to Michael J. and Mary (Cardinal) Harding. She graduated from Columbia Heights High School in 1951. On June 18, 1955, she married Arlenn Howard Hundorf in Minneapolis. They lived in the Rushford area for awhile before moving to the farm by Cedar Valley in Winona. They were later divorced. Kathleen worked for Winona Knitting Mills, Sauer Memorial Home, and bartended. Kathleen was a member of St. Stanislaus Catholic Church in Winona, Ladies Auxiliary and Eagles Auxiliary, where she was a past vice president. She enjoyed camping, reading, gambling, cooking and gardening.

Survivors include her five children, Michael (Karen) Hundorf of Minnesota City, Nancy (Bruce) Krzoska of Arcadia, Wis., Sandra Hundorf of Minnesota City, Roberta Rouster of Winona, and Colleen (Rob) Studer of Rochester, Minn.; 18 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; two sisters, Mary Jane (Ben) Schaefer of Columbia Heights, Minn., and Ann (Don) Jacobson of Blaine, Minn.; brother, Michael R. Harding of Blaine, Minn.; and special friend, Don Kerrigan of Winona.

Kathleen was preceded in death by her daughter, Mary Ellen Rumpca; grandson, Jason Hundorf; great-grandson, Michael Smith; sister, Francis Harding; and brother, Robert Harding.

The funeral service for Kathleen will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, June 6, at Hoff Funeral and Cremation Services — Hansen Goodview Chapel, with Father Thomas Hargesheimer officiating. Friends may call one hour prior to the service on Friday at the funeral home. Burial will be Saturday, June 7, at 10 a.m. at Woodlawn Cemetery, Winona. There will be a reception following the funeral, Friday, at the Eagles Club.

Arlene K. Debevec

Arlene K. Debevec, 52, formerly of Willard, Wis., died Monday, June 2, 2008, surrounded by her family at the House of the Dove Hospice Home, Marshfield, Wis.

A gathering of family and friends to celebrate her life will be held at 9 a.m. on Saturday, June 7, at Holy Family Parish Center in Willard. Rembs Funeral Home is assisting the family.

Arlene was born March 26, 1956, in Neillsville, Wis., the daughter of Robert and Josephine (Gutt) Debevec. She attended Greenwood community schools and was a 1974 graduate of Greenwood High School. She also graduated from Chippewa Valley Technical College, where she received an accounting degree. She later obtained a Bachelor of Science degree from Lakeland College.

She had been employed at IBI in Osseo, Wis., Johnson Garment Co. in Marshfield, Wis., and in the accounting department of the Marshfield Clinic Research Foundation. Lastly, she had been employed for Winona County, from September 2006 until the present time.

She is survived by her father, Robert Debevec of Willard; and by her sisters, Susan Debevec of Windsor, Conn., Sandra (Parks) Hisey of Carpentersville, Ill., Marjorie (Dave) Debevec-Marksteiner of Marshfield, and Laura (Darrell) Debevec-Schultze of Willard; and a brother-in-law, Daniel Oelhafen of Neillsville. She is also survived by nieces, nephews and great nieces and nephews, Sara (Jesse Marsh) Tytor, Stacy (Jamie) Petit, Nathan Tytor, Valerie (Jeff) Deegan, Ronald (Janelle) Thomas and their children, Ryan, Jaelyn, Kaytlyn, Lauryn and Addisyn; Dave B. Thomas, April (Brad) Schmidt and their daughter, Caleigh; Mica (John Mirenda) Debevec, Sasha Debevec-McKenney and Evan Debevec-McKenney. She is further survived by Sophia Maria, her standard poodle.

She was predeceased by her mother, Josephine, her sister, Joanne Oelhafen, and her brother, Ronald Debevec.

The family will designate a memorial in Arlene’s name at a later date.

Brian W. Wiskow

ST. CHARLES, Minn. — Brian W. Wiskow, 52, of St. Charles, died Monday, June 2, 2008, at the emergency room of St. Marys Hospital in Rochester.

Brian was born Jan. 8, 1956, in Winona, to Norman and Louis (Littlefield) Wiskow. He has lived in St. Charles his entire life, graduating from St. Charles High School in 1975. Brian and Deb Bougie were married April 11, 1987, in St. Charles. He was a carpenter, working for several construction companies. He was currently working for D & H Exteriors of Plainview.

Brian was a patient and loving person. He enjoyed genealogy, NASCAR racing (a Richard Petty fan), Civil War history, fishing and most especially spending time with his family.

Survivors include his wife, Deb; two children, James and Laura, both at home; a sister, Estella (Dick) Waby of Crosby; three brothers, Don (Mary Lou) Wiskow of Farfield Glades, Tenn., Lee (Charlotte) Wiskow of Rochester and Wayne Wiskow of Trenton, Ill.; mother-in-law, Joan Bougie of Waunakee, Wis.; brothers-in-law, Peter (Nora) Bougie of River Falls, Wis., Patrick (Debbie) Bougie of Eagan, Minn., Scott (Jenifer) Bougie of Davenport, Iowa, and Andre (Dianne) Bougie of Middleton, Wis.; many nieces and nephews; and a close friend, Leo Morgan Jr.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a niece, Mary Jane Webster; father-in-law, Jerry Bougie; and a close friend, Brian Holzer.

Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Thursday at St. Charles Borromeo Catholic Church in St. Charles, with the Rev. James Callahan officiating. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery, St. Charles. Friends may call St. Charles Borromeo Catholic Church from 4 to 8 p.m. today and 1 to 2 p.m. Thursday.

Char H. Nesler

ROLLINGSTONE, Minn. — Char H. Nesler, 59, died Monday, June 2, 2008, at her home in Rollingstone. Char was born Dec. 4, 1948, in Winona, to Charles and Honora (Weis) Nesler.

Char worked as a secretary for Warner Swasey, Merchants Bank and High Plains Co-op. Char was blessed with an artistic touch. She enjoyed baking and decorating cakes for any celebration, painting decoy ducks for Wild Wings Gallerys, making ceramics, all aspects of sewing, making greeting cards, and many people have received a pair of slippers or a money tree that she has made. Char loved most of all visiting with family and friends.

She was a member of Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Rollingstone and its St. Teresa and St. Nicholas society as well as Catholic Aid.

Survivors include her sister, Mary Jane Reed of Rollingstone; two brothers, Karl (Cindy) Nesler of Nodine, Minn., and Chuck (Jo) Nesler of Winona; niece, Denise Bailey; nephews, Shawn (Karen) Nesler, John (Lacy) Nesler, Mark (Jessica Buldak) Nesler and Jason (Jill) Reed; and four great-nieces, Carmen, Shelby, Alyssa and Miranda. She was preceded in death by her parents.

A Memorial Mass will be offered Friday, June 6, at 10:30 a.m. at Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Rollingstone, with the Rev. Donald Lovas officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

Friends may call at the church on Thursday from 5 to 8 p.m., where there will be a Christian prayer service at 7:30 p.m. Friends may also call one hour prior to the service at the church on Friday.

Marlys J. Herbers

Marlys J. Herbers, 67, passed away peacefully Sunday, June 1, 2008, after a brief but courageous battle with cancer at the River Falls Area Hospital.

She was born Dec. 13, 1940, to Leaon and Dora (Johnson) Dumond in Baldwin, Wis.

Marlys is survived by her husband of 27 years, Marty Herbers; children, Caren (Ed) Miller, Schell (Chris) Jaszewski, John (Michelle) Benish, Mark (Sara) Benish; and stepson, Todd (Michelle) Herbers.

She is further survived by 11 grandchildren; brother, Gailen; and sisters, Darlene and Doris; and other family and friends.

Her parents and brother, Dale Dumond, and infant twin siblings, preceded her in death.

A visitation for family and friends was from 5 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, June 3, at Cashman-Hill Funeral Home, River Falls, Wis. Burial of cremated remains will be at a later date in Beldenville Cemetery, Beldenville, Wis.

Lynn I. Iverson

LANESBORO, Minn. — The funeral for Lynn I. Iverson will be Thursday, June 5, at 1 p.m. at Bethlehem Lutheran Church, Lanesboro, with the Rev. Kerry Eversole officiating. The burial will be in Lanesboro Cemetery.

Mr. Iverson, 83, died Sunday, June 1, at his home. Lynn I. Iverson was born Feb. 5, 1925, in the Peterson area. He graduated from Peterson High School. He then farmed and trucked. On March 26, 1949, he married Alice Peterson. He drove truck for Root River Oil. He was part-owner of Peterson Motors Inc., Lanesboro, and later sold cars for Sugar Loaf Ford in Winona and also sold monuments for Lewiston Monument. He also worked for Johnson-Riley Funeral Home.

He was a 36 year member of the Lanesboro Fire Department and was chief for 12 years. He also spent 22 years on the Lanesboro Ambulance. He drove school bus for Lanesboro Schools for 17 years and was also a past mayor of Lanesboro. He was a member of Bethlehem Lutheran Church and served on the church council. He is a member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles of Rochester, Minn., and Sons of the Legion in Lanesboro.

He is survived by his wife, Alice; one brother, Wayne (Marge) of Rochester; one daughter, Leona (Gene) Rebellato of Spring Hill, Fla.; a son, Jim (Becky) Iverson of Lanesboro; six grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

Friends may call from 5 to 7 p.m. today, June 4, at Johnson-Riley Funeral Home in Lanesboro, and one hour before the service Thursday at the church.
