HOUSTON, Minn. — Larry E. Thorson, 63, of Houston died Sunday, May 25, 2008, due to a accident on his farm.
Larry was born July 22, 1944, in La Crosse, Wis., to Tenart and Mildred (Benson) Thorson. He was raised in Houston and graduated from Houston High School in 1962. He served in the U.S. Navy during the Vietnam War on the CVA USS Shangri-la. He attended Winona Technical College and worked two years for John Deere in Waterloo, Iowa. He worked for UPS for five years. Larry was a partner in ownership of the Kentucky Fried Chicken in Winona. He married Linda Lemke. They were later divorced. On Nov. 25, 1978, he married Peggy Erkel.
Larry was a graduate of the Minnesota State Trooper Academy. He worked as a Minnesota State Trooper for over 28 years. Larry served as a personal body guard for Minnesota Gov. Rudy Perpich. He lived in Lakeville and LeCenter, Minn., prior to moving back to Houston in 1997. He retired from the Minnesota State Patrol in 1998. After his retirement, Larry and Peggy ran their own antique shop in Houston. Larry also worked as a school bus driver for Houston Public Schools. He was a member of the Houston American Legion and a life member of the Police and Peace Officers Association. Larry was a man of great Christian faith, always putting God and family first.
He is survived by his wife Peggy; mother, Mildred Gaustad of Houston; four children, Kenneth (Amy Kelly) Thorson of Houston, Erica (Kyle Lee) Thorson of Rathdrum, Idaho, Dolores Thorson of Houston and Scott Thorson of Houston; one brother, Ted (Betty) Thorson of Houston; and two sisters, Nancy (Ray Bobson) Deshayes of Eagle, Colo., and Evonne (Richard) Snow of Houston.
Larry was preceded in death by his father, Tenart Thorson; stepfather, Clifton Gaustad; and by his mother and father-in-law, Kenneth and Dolores Erkel.
The funeral service for Larry will be at noon Saturday, May 31, at his farm (8404 County 4, Houston) with funeral celebrant Daryl Thompson officiating. Burial will be in the Yucatan Cemetery in rural Houston, with military honors by the Arnet-Sheldon American Legion Post of Houston.
Friends may call from 4 to 9 p.m. Friday at Hoff Funeral Homes-Houston Chapel and one hour prior to the service at the farm on Saturday.

Everett John Grant

DOVER, Minn. — Everett John Grant, 76, of rural Dover died Monday May 26, 2008, at St. Marys Hospital in Roch-ester, Minn.
Everett was born Feb. 25, 1932, in Winona County to William and Mildred (Herman) Grant. He lived with his family near Clyde and Saratoga before his family moved to rural Dover in 1944. Everett served in the U.S. Air Force as an Airman 1st Class during the Korean War, stationed in Maine and Japan. He and Ardie McDougall were married Nov. 15, 1966, at Elmira Church near Dover. They farmed the Grant family farm. Everett also managed the Dover Ready Mix plant for 38 years. Currently, he was driving truck for area farmers.
He was a member of the St. Charles American Legion Post 190, having served as post commander for two years, sergeant-at-arms, honor guard and an active member of the firing squad. He also belonged to the Korean War veterans group.
Survivors include his wife, Ardie; four children, Kathy (Brian) Martin of Dover, Michael (Janelle) Grant of Dover, Sue Grant of Rochester and Peggy (John) Plaisted of Dallas; two granddaughters, Emily and Allison; and a brother, James Grant of St. Charles. He was preceded in death by his parents.
Funeral services will be at 3 p.m. Friday at Faith United Methodist Church in Eyota, with the Rev. Mark Woodward officiating. Burial will follow in Evergreen Cemetery in Dover, with military graveside honors conducted by St. Charles American Legion and Veterans of Foreign War posts.
Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. today at Hoff Funeral Home in St. Charles. They also may call one hour before services at the church Friday.

Audrey R. Nahrgang
Audrey R. Nahrgang, 87, of Queen Creek, Ariz., and formerly of Lewiston, Minn., died Wednesday, May 28, 2008, in Queen Creek.

MINNESOTA CITY, Minn. — Maurice A. Anderson, 91, of Minnesota City died Sunday, May 25, 2008, at Community Memorial Hospital, Winona.
Mass of Christian Burial will be at 11:30 a.m. Monday at St. Paul’s Catholic Church, Minnesota City.
Visitation will be 3 to 5 p.m. Sunday at Fawcett-Junker Funeral Home, Winona, with prayer service at 4:30 p.m. Visitation from 10:30 a.m. until time of service Monday at the church.
Burial will be in St. Mary’s Cemetery, Winona.

Verlie M. Sather, 100, died Wednesday, May 28, 2008, at St. Anne Extended Healthcare, Winona.
Her funeral is at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Centeral Lutheran Church.
