Kiaela Roschina Bracy, 23, also was ordered to serve a mandatory minimum six-month jail sentence because of a previous drug conviction. Bracy was given until noon June 20 to report to jail, so she can make babysitting arrangements for her two children.
Bracy apologized to the city of Winona, her mother and her children just before Judge Jeff Thompson read her sentence.
According to the criminal complaint, Bracy sold more than three grams of cocaine to a police informant Aug. 30, 2007.
Overseas drugs
A 21-year-old man was charged May 20 with two counts of selling a Schedule IV drug, bromazepam, after police found his “best friend” in a coma at Community Memorial Hospital.
Matthew Frank Pecarina faces a maximum penalty of five years in prison and a $10,000 fine if convicted on either of the charges.
According to the criminal complaint made available Thursday, Pecarina, who was taking antidepressants, quit school and fell off his father’s health insurance plan. In January, he bought 160 tablets of bromazepam over the Internet from Bulgaria for $214 as a replacement.
He gave some of the pills to his friend, who paid for part of Pecarina’s online bill. The friend took some of the pills and might have had an allergic reaction. He was hospitalized in the intensive care unit, in an induced coma, the complaint states. Pecarina was admitted to Gundersen Lutheran Medical Center in La Crosse, Wis. after taking some of the pills.
Pecarina has not been arrested and has been summoned to appear in court June 6.
More drugs
Robert Wayne Gilow appeared in Winona County District Court for a plea hearing on charges of selling painkillers in 2007.
Instead of entering a guilty plea to finalize his case, Gilow, 40, changed his mind and requested a jury trial, his public defender, Jamie Hammell said.
A pretrial hearing was set for Aug. 7, and a jury trial was scheduled to begin in September.
According to the criminal complaint, Gilow sold six tablets of generic Darvocet and four tablets of Vicodin to a police informant Jan. 18, 2007.
