Candidates include Connie Biedron, an elementary principal at Blair-Taylor who holds a doctorate of education and chairs a state Department of Public Instruction Advisory Council on Charter Schools; Thomas Hiebert, superintendent of McLeod West Public Schools, Brownton and Stewart, Minn., and a former K-12 principal and assistant superintendent at Lyle, Minn.; and William Van Meer, a middle school principal at Monroe, Wis., Middle School, and former principal at Community School District 140 in Eureka, Ill.
C-FC School Board President Ed Callahan said Biedron, Hiebert and Van Meer were interviewed in closed session and one of them emerged as the board’s “first choice” for the position, though Callahan declined to name the favorite.
The school board planned to meet with its top choice for the job in closed session Wednesday night to negotiate a contract agreement. The name of the candidate selected for the position will be announced after a contract agreement is reached, according to Callahan.
The eight candidates interviewed from a pool of 21 in closed sessions last week were questioned by a team of 28 people divided into four groups, focusing on curriculum, finance, communication and school board relations.
Callahan said the school board was assisted in the first-round of interviews by representatives of teachers, non-teaching staff and members of the C-FC Parent-Teacher Organization and school booster clubs.
The district is hiring a new administrator to begin work July 1, replacing Mary Randall, who resigned, effective June 30, to take a job as superintendent for the Bloomer (Wis.) School District.
The school board hired Fox River Consultants to lead the district’s search for a new superintendent.
