Cook County authorities say the fire was reported at 7:05 a.m. in Building B at Eagle Ridge, which was declared a total loss. It was one of 11 buildings in the Eagle Ridge complex.
Charles Skinner, co-owner of the complex, says the building was about 10 years old and will be rebuilt.
Another co-owner, Tom Rider, says the building was worth at least a half million dollars, but it was insured.
Skinner says only one party was staying there at the time, and that the fire might have started in that unit's wood-burning fireplace.
Firefighters say high winds made their work difficult. The fire jumped to an adjacent building, and caused some minor damage. It also started some small spot fires in the nearby woods that were quickly extinguished.
