Published - Sunday, May 18, 2008 Chicago-based company recalls meat in E. coli scare CHICAGO — Federal officials say a Chicago-based company is recalling beef products distributed in 11 states, including Wisconsin, due to an E. coli scare. The U.S. Department of Agriculture on Saturday said no illnesses have reported with the recall from JSM Meat Holdings Co. The meat being recalled is used in ground products. They include 30-pound, 60-pound and 47-gallon barrels of “MORREALE MEAT” beef products. The products have the number “EST. 6872” inside the USDA mark of inspection. The problem was discovered by the USDA’s Food Safety and Inspection Service. Officials say an “undetermined amount of beef” is being recalled. A message left for a company spokesman after business hours wasn’t immediately returned. The other states affected are Florida, Georgia, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Massachusetts, Michigan, Missouri, Nebraska and Pennsylvania.
