Twenty-four Republican lawmakers and one Democrat wrote a letter to Wisconsin’s congressional delegation saying ethanol policies have been a disaster and subsides for it would be better spent on fuel cell technology.
The lawmakers say the need to lift requirements that six southeastern counties use cleaner-burning reformulated gas is even more urgent. They called the gas a “boutique fuel” that isn’t cleaner or cheaper and puts that area of the state at a disadvantage.
One signer of the letter, Republican Sen. Alberta Darling of River Hills, says “gas prices are hitting families in the pocketbook.”
