Bertha W. Herrmann
June 11, 1914 — May 14, 2008

PEPIN, Wis. — Bertha W. Herrmann, 93, of Pepin, formerly of Cochrane and Alma, died early Wednesday morning, May 14, at Pepin Manor.

She was born June 11, 1914, in the town of Lincoln, Buffalo County, Wis., a daughter of the late Frank and Lena (Mueller) Ebert. Bertha attended Alma schools, graduating from Alma High School with the class of 1931 as their valedictorian. She then attended the Calhoun Secretarial School in Minneapolis. Upon her graduation, she was employed by various businesses, namely Collis Products Co. and was the Deputy Register of Deeds under Chas. H. Kaste, register of deeds. She was also the city clerk in Buffalo City and town treasurer of Belvidere.

On May 21, 1937, Bertha was united in marriage to Carl Herrmann. Carl preceded Bertha in death March 28, 1990. They farmed until 1947, at which time they moved to Alma, then Buffalo City and finally to a small farm in the town of Belvidere.

Bertha will be remembered for her beautiful flowers, precise penmanship and the many, many cross stitch pictures she completed. She attended St. John Lutheran Church, where she was confirmed April 7, 1929.

Bertha is survived by a sister-in-law, Betty Ebert; nieces, nephew and cousins.

Besides her parents and husband, Carl; one brother, Alfred, preceded Bertha in death.

Funeral services were held Thursday, May 15, at 4 p.m. at the Talbot Family Funeral Home, Alma Chapel. Private burial will be today at Buffalo City Cemetery.

Gary Walter LaPoint

Dec. 30, 1948 — May 14, 2008

LA CRESCENT, Minn. — Gary W. LaPoint, 59, passed away May 14, 2008, at his home.

He was born Dec. 30, 1948, in La Crosse, Wis., to Walter and Eileen (Hickey) LaPoint. He later married Kathleen Starkey. Gary owned and operated Rochester Wholesale Fruit Inc. for 30 years. He enjoyed golfing and loved spending time on the river with his family.

He is survived by his wife, Kathleen; three children, Nikki (Robert) Stanton of Winona, Angela (Michael) Iverson of Winona and Greg (Susan) LaPoint of La Crosse; seven grandchildren, Kayla and Mati Stanton, Alex LaPoint, Tyler, Tanner, Savannah and Samantha Iverson; sisters, Youvane Clark and Sharon Bluske; and a brother, Terry LaPoint.

He was preceded by his parents; three sisters, Sally McMullen, Cheryl Jirack, Joyce Bott; and brothers, Don and Rick LaPoint.

A memorial service will be held today at 11 a.m. at the Dickinson Family Funeral Home, 809 Gillette Street,

La Crosse. Family and friends may call at the funeral home today from 10 a.m. until time of services. The Rev. Mike Woods will officiate and burial will be in the Toledo Cemetery in La Crescent.

In lieu of flowers, memorial are preferred.

Lillian Magnuson

WHITEHALL, Wis. — Lillian Magnuson, 88, of Whitehall died Thursday, May 15, 2008, at Gundersen Lutheran Medical Center in

La Crosse, Wis.

Funeral services will be held at 4 p.m. Saturday in the Jack Funeral Home, with burial in the Lincoln Cemetery, both in Whitehall.

Friends may call one hour prior to the service.
