Family of St. Cloud student found dead sues bars

.
ST. CLOUD, Minn. (AP) _ The family of a St. Cloud State University student who was found dead in the Mississippi River is suing the bars where he drank.

Scot Radel's family has filed lawsuits against three downtown St. Cloud bars, saying the 21-year-old was served even though he was noticeably drunk.
The lawsuits say Radel's drunkennes contributed to his drowning death in 2006.

An autopsy showed Radel's blood-alcohol level was 0.215 percent. Authorities have said his death was an accident.

The bars named in the suit are RumRunners, D.B. Searle's and McRudy's Pub.

In court papers, lawyers representing the bars have denied illegally serving Radel.

Radel disappeared February 2, 2006. His body was found about a month later.

" Maybe we need college courses designed to teach people how to be drunks and drug users. It could be called, "Libation Studies" and could feature a potential minor in, "Recreational Drug Use". The kid got wasted and sometimes drunk people don't always appear that drunk, especially when they drink all of the time. My apologies to the family on their loss, but your kid is not dead because of the bars, their owners or the bartenders. He is dead because he choose to drink irresponsibly "

" I couldn't agree more. While I feel for the family of Mr. Radel, at some point a person is responsible for their own actions, even actions that result in great harm. "

" Once again, the drunk is not responsible for their own actions. Stop the lawyers, stop the madness. They are ruining this country. We used to be a free country back in the day. No more. "You are free to do what ever we tell you to do" signed the government. "
