Area roundup: W-K baseball team wins fourth straight

RUSHFORD, Minn. — Four lead changes, three ties and a two-run deficit later, Wabasha-Kellogg High School’s baseball team squeaked out its fourth win in a row.

Chris Sill, Jason Lamey and Kyle Sill each had two hits and Jordan Dick scored the winning run on a sixth-inning, two-out error as the Falcons snuck past Rushford-Peterson 8-7 on Monday.

W-K junior Matt Sandstrom pitched 62/3 innings for the win, while junior Logan Stuhr got the last out for the save.

Dick led off the top of the sixth with a walk and stole second to put the go-ahead run in scoring position. Dick later scored from third with two outs when a Lamey ground ball was misplayed at first base.

Chris Sill went 2-for-5 with two runs, Kyle Sill 2-for-3 with a double and an RBI and Lamey 2-for-4 with two RBIs to lead W-K.

Cody Frick went 2-for-4 with a run and two RBIs and Blake Lea had two RBIs for R-P (6-10, 6-10).

W-K committed four errors, while R-P was charged with five. Four of W-K’s runs were unearned.

P-E-M 12, Fillmore Central 8

PLAINVIEW, Minn. — Ben Keilholtz went 3-for-5 with a double, home run and four RBIs, Matthan Kohn went 2-for-5 with a double, home run and two RBIs and Jordan Kruger went 2-for-3 with a triple and an RBI to lead Plainview-Elgin-Millville.

Levi Olstad went 1-for-3 with a three-run home run for Fillmore Central.

St. Charles 6, GMLOK 0

KINGSLAND, Minn. — Brad Kohn and Matt Ellinghuysen combined for nine strikeouts over a one-hit shutout to lead St. Charles.

Brent Kraut, Al Strain and Matt Putzier each had two hits for the Saints.

Justin Christian had the lone hit for Grand Meadow/LeRoy-Ostrander/ Kingsland.

Southeast

Houston 16, Schaeffer Academy 2 (5)

HOUSTON, Minn. — Tanner Benson had a home run and two RBIs, Pete Kildahl went 2-for-2 and Steven Thompson and Andy Sires each went

2-for-3 to lead Houston, which scored six runs in the first, two in the second and eight in the third.

Jacob Melder was 2-for-3 for Schaeffer Academy.

Softball

Three Rivers

St. Charles 2, Chatfield 0 (8)

CHATFIELD, Minn. — Emily Hoffman hit a two-out, two-run, ground-rule double to break a scoreless tie in the top of the eighth inning.

Hoffman then finished the Three Rivers crossover game from the mound, finishing off Chatfield in a battle of the top teams from the respective TRC divisions.

Erin Abbott pitched four innings and struck out eight before passing the game off to Hoffman, who worked four scoreless innings for the win.

Emily Nelson went 2-for-3 with a double to help keep the Saints (16-0, 13-0) undefeated.

D-E 1, FC/L 0

PRESTON, Minn. — Molly Behrens allowed just three hits and struck out eight over a complete-game win, and Brittni Mayer delivered a two-out RBI

single in the top of the seventh inning to lead Dover-Eyota.

Katie Melver, Jordana Whalen and Sam Gibson combined for Fillmore Central/Lanesboro’s three hits.

W-K 6, R-P 1

PETERSON, Minn. — Whitney Madison went seven innings and struck out nine, Molly Stuhr went 3-for-4 with two doubles and Amy Swenson went 1-for-3 with a double to lead Wabasha-Kellogg.

Steph Baker went 1-for-3 with a triple for Rushford-Peterson.

Southeast

Hope Lutheran 6, G-E 1

Felicia Meyer pitched a complete-game, four-hitter with 13 strikeouts to lead the Patriots past Glenville-Emmons.

Hope Lutheran’s Angie Wenzel and Megan Luehmann each went 2-for-4. Wenzel had three RBIs, while Luehmann had a double and two RBIs.

L/P 11, Mabel-Canton 0 (5)

MABEL, Minn. — Emily Rysavy pitched a complete-game, no-hitter and went 2-for-3 to lead Lyle/Pacelli.

Rysavy worked out of a first-inning, bases-loaded jam and allowed just two walks and two hit by pitches.

L/P scored two runs in the top of the first and closed the door with nine runs in the fifth.

Houston 4, SG/C 3

HOUSTON, Minn. — Houston scored two runs in the bottom of the seventh to hand Spring Grove/Caledonia its first loss in the Southeast Conference.

Brynn Proudfoot scored the walk-off run on a two-out SG/C throwing error. Emily Earnest scored the tying run earlier in the frame.

SG/C overcame a 2-1 deficit to take the 3-2 lead in the top half of the seventh before the Hurricanes came back in the bottom of the inning.

Calli Schneider pitched a complete game and struck out six and Proudfoot and Morgan Lehmann had two hits apiece for Houston.

SG/C’s Cassie Gran went 3-for-3 and struck out four in 6 2/3 innings in the loss.

Dairyland

M-M 8, C-FC 2

MELROSE, Wis. — Alyssa Baumer went the full seven innings and struck out seven to lead Melrose-Mindoro.

Erica Willadsen went 2-for-3 and Nicki Dahl went six innings, struck out four and walked four for Cochrane-Fountain City.

ECI 11, Alma 1 (6)

ALMA, Wis. — Jessie Meyer struck out seven over four innings for the win and Katherine Kazemba went 3-for-4 to lead Eau Claire Immanuel.

The Lancers scored five runs in the fifth inning and three in the sixth to close the door on Alma.

Rachel Markus and Meyer had two hits apiece for ECI.

Ali Ritscher struck out five in six innings for Alma.
