Cotter began the day with a 2-0 Hiawatha Valley League win at Triton. The Ramblers then set off on a caravan of players, coaches and parents to Kasson-Mantorville to complete a suspended game for an 8-1 win and push their winning streak to three.
Cotter sophomore Jordan Ossefoort set the tone for a strong day of pitching for the Ramblers with a complete-game, five-hit shutout against Triton.
Ossefoort had eight strikeouts and one walk and made sure Cotter’s 2-0 first-inning lead held up.
“Jordan was awesome,” Cotter coach Mat O’Brien said. “Complete command. We pretty much rode him the entire game.”
Matt Wolfe and Joe Coron drove in the Ramblers’ runs with RBI singles in the first and the Ramblers played error-free baseball behind Ossefoort the rest of the way.
Cotter picked up where it left off in more ways than one against K-M.
The game commenced in a scoreless tie with no outs in the bottom of the second and a K-M base runner on second.
The KoMets took a short-lived 1-0 lead, but the Ramblers quickly responded with more quality pitching, hitting and defense.
Cotter (7-8, 5-6) tied the game 1-1 in the top of the third, then exploded for six runs in the top of the fourth to take a 7-1 lead.
Wolfe stole home with two outs and the bases loaded for the second run in Cotter’s six-run fourth. The Ramblers went on to tack on four more two-out runs.
Wolfe pitched a complete game and struck out five in front of another error-free Cotter defense.
Cotter’s Scott Ryan went 2-for-4 with a double and three RBIs, Kris Murphy went 2-for-4 with two runs and two RBIs and David Miller went 2-for-4.
“Our pitchers did a great job,” O’Brien said. “Defense as well. To come off a win Saturday and get two wins today was big for us.”
