In Game 3, Cotter was led by Chelsea Cierzan, who went seven innings, struck out five and walked two. Cierzan also relieved in the first two games.
“(Chelsea) pitched very well for us,” Cotter coach Pat Bowlin said. “She was effective all day and was a bright spot for us.”
Jenny Gilbertson went 3-for-3 with an inside-the-park home run and two RBIs and Lauren Bowlin went 2-for-3 with two RBIs for the Ramblers.
In Game 1, Cotter fell 7-3 to Henry Sibley. Anna Buege went 2-for-4 for Cotter.
In Game 2, the Ramblers fell 6-0 to Maple Grove. Buege and Allie Gernes each went 2-for-3 for the Ramblers.
“In the first two games, we didn’t make any plays to help out our pitchers,” Bowlin said. “We didn’t hit that well in the clutch. We had runners on base, especially in the first game. It wasn’t until the third game that we started getting clutch hits.”

ROCHESTER, Minn. — Jared Samuelson one-hit Winona, striking out six and walking just two. He also came up with a home run to help his cause.
“He threw hard,” WSHS coach Matt Smith said. “We’re an OK hitting club and he one-hit us, that shows he had a pretty good day.”
The one hit for the Winhawks (4-10, 4-8) came in the first inning by Jeff Walters.
Adam Lueck went the distance for Winona, which wrapped up a six-game in five days week. Lueck struck out three and walked seven.
“He pitched well,” Smith said. “He did the job and got us out of some tough scrapes.”
Boys tennis
Onalaska Invitational
ONALASKA, Wis. — In matchups against three teams they haven’t really seen before, the Ramblers went 1-2 on the day. Cotter fell to Waunkee and Onalaska consecutively then rebounded to defeat Wisconsin Rapids.
Cotter rode its doubles teams to its only win by sweeping doubles play. Joey Nadeau and Sam Werle (6-3, 3-6, 10-8), Connor Ferris and Ludi Leser (6-4, 6-2) and Collin Michener and Grant Gernes (6-3, 2-6, 11-9) were the doubles winners for the Ramblers.
Against Waunkee, Cotter fell 5-2 with Ross Heymans and Bobby Kim picking up singles wins. The Ramblers fell to Onalaska 6-1 with the team of Joey Nadeau and Sam Werle picking up the only win.
Big Nine Meet
ROCHESTER, Minn. — WSHS finished in second place behind Rochester Mayo at the Big Nine Conference meet.
On the singles side, Jay Moran and Cameron Weess finished second in their brackets and on the doubles side Jon Sanvik and Erik Chapman and Kyle Swanson and Martin Feddersen finished second in their brackets.
“It was an outstanding day for us,” WSHS coach Tom Sanvik said. “It was an outstanding team effort.”
