Legislature sends bill to track greenhouse gases to Pawlenty

ST. PAUL (AP) _ A bill requiring regular progress reports on Minnesota's efforts to reduce greenhouse gas emissions is on its way to Governor Tim Pawlenty.

Pawlenty's office is reviewing the bill, which passed both houses of the Legislature.

It would require the Department of Commerce and the Minnesota Pollution Control Agency to report regularly on emissions reductions as the state aims to cut greenhouse gas emissions 80 percent by 2050.

Representative Bill Hilty says the progress reports are needed to live up to the goal set last year.

Other provisions would require new or replacement outdoor light fixtures to point downward and toughen reporting requirements for so-called "super-warmer" greenhouse gases.

The bill passed the House 110-22. The Senate vote was 51-13.
