Coleman says Franken has shifted stances

WASHINGTON — Minnesota Senator Norm Coleman — who quit the Democratic Party 12 years ago to become a Republican — accuses likely DFL opponent Al Franken of changing positions, demeanor and rhetoric.

Coleman makes the charges in a fundraising e-mail sent out by the campaign this week. Coleman says that Franken’s “extremely liberal viewpoints” are now couched in softer terms. The senator says that Franken has mostly stopping cursing in public.

Coleman says that throughout his own career in politics, he’s been a “common-sense conservative.”

Franken campaign spokesman Andy Barr responds that Coleman has been all over the political map.
