Cause of Duluth fatal fire accidental

DULUTH, Minn. — Duluth fire investigators say the cause of the fire that killed three people over the weekend was accidental.

The fire started in a wall of the triplex and smoldered for a few hours, sending smoke throughout the apartment.

Thirty-two-year-old Heather Johnson, her 37-year-old boyfriend, Adrian Carter, and her 4-year-old son Kaiden died of smoke inhalation.

The fire department won’t announce an official fire cause until lab results come back.

Although the apartment was overdue for an inspection, officials say there is no way a routine inspection would have caught the problem.
