Wayne State defeated WSU 6-3 at the Pete Chapman Baseball Complex. The Warriors (21-20), who were the defending NSIC champs, move to the losers’ bracket for a 10 a.m. game today against Upper Iowa.
Winona State opened the scoring in the top of the first inning when Mike Wendland doubled and scored on a sacrifice fly by John Magee.
The Wildcats (39-10) took the lead for good in the bottom of the third on Marc Manganaro’s two-run home run to left field.
The Wildcats pulled away with four runs in the fifth, including Sean Soderberg’s bases-loaded, three-run double.
Mike Brabender pulled WSU within 6-2 with an RBI groundout in the sixth that scored Ronnie Olson, who singled to open the inning.
Sam Henriksen led off the seventh for WSU with a double and scored on Jared Andersen’s single.
Wayne State outhit WSU 12-8.
Mitch Herrick improved to 8-1 striking out four and walking two in seven innings.

INDIANAPOLIS — Winona State was swept by Northwest Missouri State in the NCAA Division II Regional Semifinals.
NWMS was improved to 22-4 and is ranked No. 31 in the cournty. It is also the top-ranked team in the region, while WSU is the fourth-ranked team in the region.
