Franken shows leadership

.
I’d like to commend Al Franken for the serious and responsible way he handled a very tough situation this past week. First, the facts:

Franken has paid state and federal income tax on every cent he ever earned.
An accounting error caused him to overpay his state taxes in some states, and underpay them in others — but he did not benefit financially in any way.

As soon as he found out about the mistake, he immediately resolved it — even though none of the states where he underpaid ever asked for the money.

He disclosed it in a transparent way, took full responsibility for it and is doing everything honorable and necessary to make things right.

Franken is an honest and responsible person, and this past week is one more example of why we are fortunate he’s willing to serve our state and our country in the U.S. Senate.
