City roundup: Cotter tennis team picks up win

The Cotter High School boys tennis team put it together in both singles and doubles Tuesday in defeating Shattuck St. Mary’s 5-2.

In singles, Jake DeMarais (6-2, 6-4), Bobby Kim (7-6, 6-1) and Sam Werle (6-3, 6-3) all picked up wins for Cotter
(5-6).

“Bobby Kim and Sam Werle really picked it up today,” Cotter coach Blake Duden said. “They were against some good competition from Shattuck and they played great.”

In doubles, Joey Nadeau and Connor Ferris won 6-2, 6-2, and Collin Michener and Ludi Leser won 1-6, 6-2, 7-5.

Baseball

WSHS 3, Owatonna 2 (Susp.)


OWATONNA, Minn. — Logan Hemker delivered a two-run single through the left side of the infield in the fifth inning to give the Winhawks a one-run lead before play was suspended in the bottom of the frame because of rain.

The game will be concluded May 19 in Winona prior to the start of the day’s regularly scheduled game.

Brandon Schmit had a double, and Adam Lueck struck out three before play was stopped.
