Area roundup: Falcons cash in on miscues

WABASHA, Minn. — Wabasha-Kellogg High School’s baseball team advanced to the Class A state tournament last season. Clearly, the Falcons are not a team to give extra outs.

W-K scored three unearned runs Monday to trip up Fillmore Central/ Lanesboro 3-2 in the Three Rivers Conference.
FC/L went up 2-1 in the top of the sixth on solo home runs from Levi Olstad and Kenny McBride.

W-K responded in the bottom of the sixth with two-out RBI singles from Jordan Dick and Chris Sill. Both hits came after an FC/L error extended the inning.

The Falcons also had an unearned run in the bottom of the first.

W-K’s Kyler Stiner went 2-for-3 and Sill and Dick each went 1-for-3 with an RBI.

W-K junior Matt Sandstrom struck out six over six innings to pick up the win. Logan Stuhr worked a scoreless seventh inning for the save.

L-A 3, Caledonia 1

LEWISTON, Minn. — Lewiston-Altura junior Ben Buehler pitched a complete game with five strikeouts, while holding the visiting Warriors to four hits and no walks.

L-A’s Brady Bartelson went 3-for-3 with a double and two RBIs. Cole Kukowski had a double.

Kody Moore went 2-for-3 for Caledonia. Ryan Goetzinger pitched a complete game and struck out eight in the loss.

Hiawatha Valley

Rochester Lourdes 4, La Crescent 1

ROCHESTER, Minn. — Brandon Verthein allowed just four hits and struck out seven over seven innings but suffered the loss, as La Crescent mustered just one run on five hits.

Ryan Mineager had a triple for the Lancers.

Southeast

Houston 11, G-E 3

GLENVILLE, Minn. — Brett Benson went 3-for-4 with two doubles, and Owen Fitzgerald and Zach Stackhouse each added two hits to lead Houston over Glenville-Emmons.

Onalaska Luther 5, Black River Falls 4

BLACK RIVER FALLS, Wis. — Justin Podella went 3-for-4 with a triple and three RBIs to lead the Knights, who won despite committing four errors.

W-K 8, FC/L 2

PRESTON, Minn. — Whitney Madison pitched a complete game and struck out eight and Ava Perry had three RBIs to lead Wabasha-Kellogg.

Madison held Fillmore Central/ Lanesboro to three hits and two walks. FC/L’s Amanda Hendrickson went 2-for-3 with a double and an RBI.

Southeast

Houston 8, G-E 0

GLENVILLE, Minn. — Danielle Lynch went 3-for-4 and Calli Schneider pitched a complete game and went 2-for-3 with two RBIs to lead visiting Houston past Glenville-Emmons.

Schneider struck out four, while allowing three hits and one walk to pick up the shutout.

Arcadia 10, West Salem 0 (5)

ARCADIA, Wis. — Kayla Finner allowed just two hits, struck out eight and added a home run and three RBIs to lead Arcadia.

Brooke Finner went 2-for-2 with a double and two RBIs, and Larissa Sobotta went 2-for-3 with two RBIs for the Raiders.

Onalaska Luther 3-12, Viroqua 0-4

ONALASKA, Wis. — Onalaska Luther held Viroqua to 10 hits in two games, including just two hits in the opener.

Onalaska Luther’s Courtney Hoeg pitched a complete-game, two-hitter in the opener. Hoeg had 12 strikeouts and no walks in the shutout victory.
