City roundup: Ramblers get offensive on road trip

.
PINE ISLAND, Minn. — It was a long day, but at least the games were short.

Cotter High School’s softball team won two games in in two places Monday, starting with a 14-1 win at Kasson-Mantorville before making the 20-minute trip to Pine Island and defeating Kenyon-Wanamingo 22-3.
Both games lasted just five innings.

“It was a long day,” Cotter coach Pat Bowlin said. “Kenyon-Wanamingo was supposed to come here, but we couldn’t find a day that worked, so we got creative.”

The Ramblers also got offensive, scoring five or more runs in an inning five times.

Laura Erickson went 5-for-6 with three doubles, a triple, a home run and seven RBIs on the two-win day.

Anna Buege and Whitney Wisecup each had three hits in the opener. Jenny Gilbertson went 2-for-4 with a double and two RBIs, and Micaela Trainor went 2-for-3 with two triples and three RBIs in the nightcap.

Z-M answered with two runs in the third to cut the deficit to one, but Cotter’s Tommy Mullen delivered a two-run double and O’Brien held the Cougars scoreless the rest of the way.
