WSU golf: Wilhelm leads Warriors at region tournament

FINDLAY, Ohio — The Winona State University men’s golf team posted a 32-over-par 320 Monday at Red Hawk Run Golf Course and stands in eighth place of eight teams after the first round of the NCAA Division II Central Region tournament.

The Warriors, who trail tournament-leading Washburn (Kan.) by 22 strokes, will participate in the second round today before concluding the tournament

tomorrow. The top team from each region will advance to the national finals in Houston.

Ross Wilhelm, who finished Round 1 with a 4-over-par 76 to lead the Warriors, is in a nine-way tie for eighth place — four strokes behind the tournament leader.

WSU’s Keegan Drugan and Kevin Loeffler each shot a 9-over-par 81 to tie for 30th.

Brady Strangstalien, the two-time defending Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference individual champion, is in 33rd place with an 82, and John Anderson (85) is 43rd.
