Winona
Wednesday

10:39 p.m. — Two people reported being bitten by a brown-and-white cat in the 50 block of Fairfax Street. A girl stopped petting the cat and it bit her. Her father tried to read information on a PetSafe invisible-fence collar it was wearing, and the cat bit him, too. Anyone with any information about the cat is asked to call Animal Control at (507) 457-6294 so the cat can be tested for disease.

Winona County

3:24 p.m. — Deputies responded to a rollover crash near the intersection of County Road 23 and Pinewood Drive east of Lewiston. The driver, Michael Duncanson, 16, of Lewiston, drove into the shoulder, overcorrected and rolled three or four times. He was transported to Community Memorial Hospital with a cut on his hand and other minor injuries. No one else was involved in the incident.

Thursday

12:29 p.m. — Police responded to a school after a report by a 15-year-old that she had been sexually assaulted April 30 in a residence on the west end of Winona. After questioning the teenager, police said they questioned and arrested Hector Valenzuela, 19, of Winona in a different west-end residence. Police said Valenzuela has been referred to the county attorney’s office for charges of third-degree criminal sexual conduct.

Friday

15:55 a.m. — A police officer on patrol in the area of Third and Ewing streets found a man walking in a wooded area near a business that has been the victim of several recent burglaries. After noticing the officer, authorities said the man fled on foot. The county sheriff’s K-9 unit was called, and police dog Blitz tracked down the man, Dustin Lyle Johnson, 22, of Winona. Authorities said he told police he had a knife in a backpack. Police then searched Johnson, who authorities said had prescription drugs on him that he had not been prescribed. Police said Johnson was arrested for fifth-degree possession of a controlled substance.

1:34 a.m. — Police responded to complaints of a loud party near the corner of Main and Howard streets. Nicholas Peter Malotke, 20, of Woodbury, Minn., fled when police arrived but was soon apprehended, police said. Malotke was cited for fleeing on foot and underage consumption.
