Prom activities a huge success

With a sense of pride in our community and deep gratitude, I read in the Winona Daily News that “no extra police patrols were needed on prom night in Winona.”

Police Deputy Chief Tom Williams was quoted as saying, “The school has had excellent pre- and post-prom activities for students, and underage drinking just hasn’t been a problem.”

He is right, and this kind of success does not just happen on its own.

Heartfelt thanks go to the many businesses that donated prizes and to the parents and school staff who support and organize such fun activities for our students at WSHS and Cotter High School.

In the 20 years we’ve been doing this, I don’t think Winona has had a fatal car accident on prom night. Unfortunately, this is not true in all communities.

I would like to recognize WSHS teachers Charles Sackett for his hard work and dedication in bringing new and fun ideas to the prom this year, and Mary Stromback for all the years she has put into the after-prom party. Thank you for a safe, fun and magical evening.
