Prep roundup: Cotter overcomes Lourdes, rain

.
Cotter High School’s softball team made it six in a row. But they had to wait a while.

Whitney Wisecup pitched a complete game and struck out eight, Lauren Bowlin and Chelsea Cierzan each had three hits and the Ramblers defeated visiting Rochester Lourdes 6-5 on Friday after a rain delay of more than an hour.
The Ramblers (10-2, 9-0) have won six consecutive games dating back to

April 19, outscoring their opponents 44-16 during that stretch.

Cierzan finished 3-for-3 with a double and four RBIs. Bowlin went 3-for-4 with three runs and two stolen bases.

Wisecup picked up her sixth win, striking out eight while holding the Eagles to seven hits and one walk, and went 2-for-4 with a steal.

The Eagles rallied for three runs in the seventh to pull within 6-5 before Wisecup worked out of the jam.

The Eagles led 2-1 after the top of the third, but Cotter put together a four-run bottom of the third to take the lead for good.

Jake Demarais and Joey Nadeau picked up singles wins in nonconference play for Cotter, but the Ramblers didn’t win another set in their second match in as many days.

“They’re probably one of the best teams in their conference,” Cotter coach Blake Duden said. “Going in we knew it would be tough. We were hoping for a good, hard match and that’s what we got.”

Demarais defeated Bob Steingraeber 6-1, 6-3 at No. 1 singles. Nadeau defeated Jacob Inda 6-2, 6-2 at No. 3 singles.
