CHARLES, Minn. — If not for an error, the St. Charles and Wabasha-Kellogg high school softball teams might still be playing. The Saints’ Erin Abbott struck out 13 and gave up a hit and a walk. W-K’s Whitney Madison had four strikeouts and gave up three hits and no walks. The difference was a second-inning error by W-K (7-3, 7-3) that allowed Emily Nelson to score from second base in the Saints’ 1-0 victory. Nelson singled to lead off the inning and was sacrificed to second on the next at-bat. After an out, Brianna Ihrke hit one to shortstop and the throw to get her out at first base was low. St. Charles (10-0, 10-0), which is ranked eighth in Class 2A by the Minnesota Coaches’ Association, defeated W-K 5-0 earlier this season. Rushford-Peterson 6-5, Fillmore Central 2-6 PETERSON, Minn. — Alyssa Miller went 5-for-6 with two doubles and a triple during the doubleheader split to lead Rushford-Peterson. Allison Scheevel struck out seven over a complete-game victory for Fillmore Central in the nightcap. Lewiston-Altura 5, Dover-Eyota 0 LEWISTON, Minn. — Brittany Rodgers and Clair Hess each went 3-for-4 for Lewiston-Altura. Hess drove in two runs. Kayla Peterson pitched a complete-game, three-hitter and struck out 13 Dover-Eyota batters. Hiawatha Valley La Crescent 8, Goodhue 1 LA CRESCENT, Minn. — La Crescent scored two runs in the fourth and four in the sixth to break open a close game. Leah Albrecht drove in two runs in the sixth and Lydia Allen had RBI singles in the fourth and sixth. The Lancers had seven stolen bases, three by Kayla Trocinski, to help the cause. Dairyland C-FC 8, Blair-Taylor 3 BLAIR, Wis. — Cochrane-Fountain City’s Annette Foegen pitched a complete game and struck out 12 to pick up the win. The Pirates took an 8-0 lead with seven runs in the top of the third. Erica Willadsen highlighted the rally with a one-out, three-run triple to put C-FC up 4-0. Willadsen finished 3-for-4 with three RBIs, Beth Murphy went 3-for-4 and Sam Murphy 2-for-4 for C-FC. Taija Bolte went 2-for-4 and Angela Seifert had a double an an RBI for B-T. Coulee Arcadia 14-11, Viroqua 1-1 VIROQUA, Wis. — Arcadia junior Chelsi Quinn had two hits in each game, including a solo home run in Game 2. Arcadia’s Kayla Finner struck out 16, walked two and gave up five hits in 10 innings combined to pick up wins in both five-inning games. Nonconference Melrose-Mindoro 4, Hope Lutheran 3 (8) Felicia Meyer struck out 16 over eight innings and allowed two earned runs to Melrose-Mindoro but suffered the loss after Hope Lutheran’s last-inning rally fell short. Jamie O’Laughlin went 1-for-4 with three RBIs, including an RBI groundout in the bottom of the eighth that brought the Patriots within one and advanced the tying run to third, but the following batter struck out to end the game. Houston 11, P-E-M 1 RIDGEWAY, Minn. — Calli Schneider allowed just two hits and struck out six to help Houston beat Plainview-Elgin-Millville. Amber Wieser was 2-for-4 with a double and two RBIs for the Hurricanes, while Morgan Lehmann added a pair of singles. Alise Holst had both hits for P-E-M. Baseball Three Rivers Fillmore Central 13, R-P 3 RUSHFORD, Minn. — Levi Olstad went 3-for-4 with a double and two RBIs, and Phil LaFleur went 3-for-4 with an RBI to lead Fillmore Central. Reid Erickson went 3-for-3 with a double to lead Rushford-Peterson, which had 10 hits but committed six errors. W-K 7, St. Charles 3 ST. CHARLES, Minn. — Wabasha-Kellogg scored six runs with two outs in the seventh to storm past St. Charles. Jordan Dick delivered a two-out, two-run single to put W-K up 5-3 after the Falcons tied the score 3-3 on back-to-back, bases-loaded walks. St. Charles’ Mitch Campbell went 1-for-3 with a two-run, go-ahead double in the fourth. L-A 6, W-K 5 ST. CHARLES, Minn. — Lewiston-Altura’s Justin Kronebusch pitched a complete game with eight strikeouts and went 2-for-3 with a double and two RBIs to lead the Cardinals past Wabasha-Kellogg. W-K’s Logan Stuhr went 3-for-3 with an RBI and Kyler Stiner went 3-for-4 with a double. Chatfield 5, Caledonia 4 CALEDONIA, Minn. — Kody Moore, Matt Mitchell and Dustin King each had two hits to lead Caledonia, which had 10 hits but committed five errors. Chatfield’s Phil Brey had a two-run home run in the third that gave it the lead for good. Southeast Glenville-Emmons 5-2, Spring Grove 0-2 SPRING GROVE, Minn. — Dakotah Rostad was 2-for-3 for Spring Grove, which only had four hits in the first game. Rostad then struck out nine and walked just one in the complete-game win in the second game. He and teammate Andy Melbostad were both 2-for-4 in the second game. Jon Mittag got the complete-game win, striking out seven and walking one for Glenville-Emmons in the opener. Mabel-Canton 8, Schaeffer Academy 3 MABEL, Minn. — Zach Lind went 1-for-3 with a triple and struck out 11 over five innings of relief to lead Mabel-Canton. M-C’s Ryan Newman went 3-for-3 with a double and Mitch Assum went 2-for-4. Boys track and field St. Charles Invitational ST. CHARLES, Minn. — Tommy Tjepkes won the 110-meter hurdles (17.33 seconds) and the 300 hurdles (43.75) to lead Plainview-Elgin-Millville to a second-place finish. Blair Johnson (10:22.9) finished first and Ben Roos (10:55.31) followed in second in the 3,200 run to lead Dover-Eyota/St. Charles to a fourth-place finish. Andrew Taubel won the triple jump (39-11.5) to lead Wabasha-Kellogg, which finished in sixth place. Girls track and field St. Charles Invitational ST. CHARLES, Minn. — Becca Lee won the 100-meter dash (13.56 seconds), the 100 hurdles (16.55) and the 300 hurdles (49.29) to lead Dover-Eyota/St. Charles to a first-place finish. Lindsey Olson won the shot put (33) and the discus (91) to lead Plainview-Elgin-Millville to a fourth-place finish. Lauren Kuklinski won the long jump (15-05) and the triple jump (33-03.5) to lead Wabasha-Kellogg, which finished in fifth place.
