Area roundup: Hope Lutheran’s Meyer strikes out 20
PRESTON, Minn. — Felicia Meyer recorded 20 strikeouts in picking up a complete game one-hitter and leading Hope Lutheran High School’s softball team to a 6-0 nonconference road win Monday at Fillmore Central/Lanesboro.
Meyer, a sophomore, took a no-hitter into the fourth inning before allowing a double to Brooke Ruesink — FC/L’s only hit to go along with four walks.
“She had a tough time with the cold weather,” Hope Lutheran coach Kevin Meyer said. “But she battled through it.”
Meyer’s 20 strikeouts were a career-high for a seven-inning game. The only out Meyer didn’t record via strikeout came when a Fillmore Central/Lanesboro batter stepped on home plate after a swinging strike two and was called out.
“She really came after us,” Fillmore Central/Lanesboro coach Tris Tollefson said.
The Patriots took a 5-0 lead after two innings. Patriots sophomore outfielder Jamie O’Laughlin went 2-for-3 with two RBIs. Freshman infielder Madison Ludford also went 2-for-3 with two RBIs.
Hiawatha Valley League
La Crescent 9, Hayfield 4 (9)
HAYFIELD, Minn. — La Crescent scored five runs in the top of the ninth to pull ahead in extra innings.
La Crescent’s Kayla Trocinski went 4-for-5 with a double, Leah Albrecht went 3-for-4 with a double and a home run and Skylar Minegar went 2-for-5.

PLAINVIEW, Minn. — Ava Perry struck out nine over five one-hit innings to lead Wabasha-Kellogg past Plainview-Elgin-Millville.
Perry also went 2-for-3 with a triple, two stolen bases, three RBIs and a run scored.
Rachel Rivers and Megan Leisen each went 2-for-3 for W-K. Rivers added a stolen base, two runs and an RBI, while Leisen had three runs and two RBIs.
Libby Hoekstra went 1-for-2 with a double for P-E-M.
St. Charles 4-10, L-A 0-3
SAINT CHARLES, Minn. — In Game 1, starting pitcher Erin Abbott drove in the first run of the game in the eighth inning. Catcher Emily Nelson homered in the next at-bat to give St. Charles a 3-0 lead. Abbott had 10 strikeouts and one walk.
In Game 2, six Warriors had multiple hits. Taige Thoreson went 3-for-4, Audrey Swenson went 2-for-3, Kim Storey went 2-for-4, Erin Abbott was 2-for-4, Emily Nelson went 2-for-4 and Katie Dunley went 2-for-3.
Clair Hess went 2-for-4 for Lewiston-Altura.

P-E-M 10, W-K 6
WABASHA, Minn. — Plainview-Elgin-Millville scored six runs in the top of the sixth to go from down 6-2 to up 8-6.
P-E-M junior Ben Keilholtz keyed the rally with a two-out, two-run double to break a 6-6 tie.
Jason Hoffman pitched a complete game and picked up the win in handing Wabasha-Kellogg its first loss.
Ross Grobe and Bryan Schneider each went 2-for-3 for P-E-M.
Zach Wolfe went 2-for-4 with four RBIs and Jordan Dick went 3-for-4 for W-K.
