City roundup: Cotter’s Theis shines at Somerby

.
PINE ISLAND, Minn. — Aaron Theis took medalist honors despite the weather on Monday in leading the Cotter High School boys golf team.

Theis shot an 81 at the par 72 Somerby Golf Course. Cotter finished one stroke behind Byron at the Triangular with a 359.
“Aaron shot a 3-over 39 on the front nine,” Cotter coach Jason Yusten said. “Considering the snow was flying when we started out, that’s a pretty good score.”

The Cotter girls finished second at the three-team triangular (495).

Faribault Triangular

FARIBAULT, Minn. — Tia Benson shot a 91 to lead Winona at the par 73 Faribault Country Club.

“It was pretty tough conditions,” WSHS coach Scott Mlynczak said. “It’s been that way all spring. We just need some warm weather to come our way. It’s tough to have fun playing golf in this.”
