Prep roundup: Mueller propels La Crescent baseball team

LA CROSSE, Wis. — Levon Mueller hit a two-run double in the top of the seventh inning to help the La Crescent high school baseball team to a 5-4 win over La Crosse Aquinas on Friday.

Aquinas (7-1) had its chance in the bottom of the seventh, getting the tying run to third base with two outs but Sam Pederson grounded out to end the game.
Ryan Minegar went 2-for-4 with a double, Brandon Verthein went 2-for-3 and Ian Anderson had a double for La Crescent (4-1).

Melrose-Mindoro 8, Independence-Gilmanton 0

MELROSE, Wis. — Alyssa Baumer allowed only three hits and struck out 10 to lead Melrose-Mindoro.

Katelin Ebner went 1-for-4 with two RBIs and Alexis Plachecki went 2-for-4 for the Mustangs.

Nonconference

Spring Grove/Caledonia 10, La Crescent 0 (5)

SPRING GROVE, Minn. — Spring Grove/Caledonia junior pitcher Cassie Gran held La Crescent to three hits while striking out six and walking two in a complete-game shutout.

Gran’s battery mate, SG/C junior catcher Theresa Ellenz, went 3-for-3 with two doubles and two RBIs.

SG/C pounded out 15 hits in the nonconference blowout, scoring three runs in both the second and third innings before adding four more runs to end the game in the fifth.
