FRIDAY
2:25 a.m. — Police received a report of suspicious activity in the area of Sanborn and Laird streets. The caller reported seeing four college-age people walking along the street with a large glass lawn ornament. When officers arrived, two of them said the green globe was a “party trophy” that travels from party to party. Because they didn’t know who the globe actually belonged to, officers confiscated it.
4:38 a.m. — An officer on foot patrol near Mark and Grand streets noticed a car revving the engine. The officer got in his vehicle and stopped the car near Sanborn and Grand streets after clocking the car traveling 48 mph in a 30-mph zone. The officer smelled alcohol on the driver’s breath. The driver, Adam James Young, 21, of Marine St. Croix, Minn., failed field sobriety tests. A preliminary breath test was given and it registered a 0.12 percent blood-alcohol content, which was later confirmed by another test at the Law Enforcement Center. Young was cited for fourth-degree drunken driving and speeding and released from the jail.
5:35 p.m. — Police arrested Edward Maurice Price, 41, of Winona for fifth-degree domestic assault after police were called to a downtown apartment. A woman complained that he had assaulted her. Officer found that she had been shoved against a wall, bitten, had marks on her neck and her left hand was bruised. Price refused to give a statement and was taken into custody. He remains at the Winona County Jail, where he is expected to make his first appearance in court today.
SATURDAY
12:05 a.m. — Police on foot patrols near Wilson and Sanborn streets issued tickets to Megan Tracey Meisinger, 18, of Mankato, Minn., and Matthew Jacob Berdicek, 18 of Cottage Grove, Minn., for underage drinking.
1 a.m. — Police on foot patrols near the Winona State University campus ticketed three students for underage drinking. Brandon Daniel Mickerson, 20, of Brooklyn Park, Minn.; Daniel James Dezelar, 19 of Maplewood, Minn.; and Jarid Alexander Bass, 20, of Winona were all given minor consumption tickets.
2:44 a.m. — A police officer on patrol noticed a car speeding in the area of Homer Road and Minnesota Hwy. 43. The officer clocked the car traveling 69 mph in a 55-mph zone. After a traffic stop was made, the officer noticed the smell of alcohol on the driver, Blane Clyde Geddes, 23, of St. Charles, Minn. Geddes failed field sobriety tests and a preliminary blood-alcohol test registered 0.20 percent. He was taken into custody and transported to the Law Enforcement Center, where another blood-alcohol test showed 0.23 percent. Geddes was cited for speeding and second-degree drunken driving. The second-degree citation is because of the high blood-alcohol content and because police records indicate Geddes was convicted of a prior DWI on
Dec. 19, 2005.
3:28 a.m. — A patrolling officer spotted a vehicle parked on the shoulder of Minnesota Hwy. 43 and Hillview Drive. As the officer pulled closer, he observed the front-seat passenger hanging outside the door vomiting and a bottle of Captain Morgan on the backseat. The passenger, 16-year-old juvenile female, was cited for underage drinking with a 0.16 percent blood-alcohol content. The officer also ticketed the 17-year-old female driver, whose 18th birthday was less than 24 hours away, with fourth-degree drunken driving with a 0.14 percent blood-alcohol content.
6:08 p.m. — Police were dispatched to a domestic dispute on the 700 block of West Sixth Street. An officer found a woman hanging out of a window yelling for help. The woman accused Dylan Michael Bartsh of punching her in the head several times, pulling her to the floor by her hair and threatening her with a steak knife in the presence of a young child. Bartsh was arrested for felony second-degree assault and child endangerment and will be referred to the Winona County Attorney’s Office for charges.
SUNDAY
1:22 a.m. — Police received a complaint of a red Honda motorcycle coming across the Winona bridge from Wisconsin and crossing the center line multiple times. An officer found the driver, Tyler Aloys Wieser, 22, of 722 Gilmore Ave., picking up his tipped-over motorcycle at Fourth and Olmstead streets in front of Steiny’s Bar. A preliminary breath test was given and it registered at 0.11 percent blood-alcohol content, which was later retested at 0.13 percent at the Law Enforcement Center. Wieser was cited for fourth-degree drunken driving.
1:22 a.m. — Winona State University security called police to break up a fight at Morey Hall and to remove a non-resident. An officer smelled alcohol on the non-resident, Marcus Ronald Sepnafski, 19, of Mosinee, Wis., who provided officers with an altered ID. A preliminary breath test was given and Sepnafski registered 0.17 percent blood-alcohol content. Police cited Sepnaski with underage drinking.
1:45 a.m. — Police responded to a fight at Fifth and Winona streets. An officer saw open alcoholic drinks on the scene and checked identification. Hugo Hernandez, 20, of 63 W. 10th St., received an underage drinking ticket, with a 0.139 percent blood-alcohol content.
