ROUNDUP: WSU sweeps Crookston
The Winona State University baseball team picked up right where it left off Sunday by dismantling Minnesota-Crookston in a doubleheader by scores of 14-4 and 19-0 at Loughrey Field.
“We just hit all day,” WSU coach Kyle Poock said.
“It was good that we were able to play all our guys and get a lot of guys at-bats.”
In the first game, the Warriors (19-12, 14-8) were led by Joe Kley who went 4-for-4 with three doubles. Justin Kunferman was the winning pitcher for the Warriors.
In the second game, Andrew Kes pulled off a rare feat by hitting two home runs in the third inning. Andrew DeSousa picked up the win for WSU on the mound.
“I think one of the reasons we are hitting better is because the weather is getting warmer,” Poock said. “Hitting is contagious.”

Gustavus 10, SMU 5
ST. PETER, Minn. — SMU got out to a 2-0 lead after the top of the first inning but couldn’t hold it.
The Cardinals (6-16, 3-10) gave up a run in the second, and two runs apiece in the third and fourth to lose the lead.
In the top of the sixth, SMU tied the game at 5-5 when Kevin Black delivered a two-run single.
Gustavus (18-9, 10-1) responded with a five run bottom of the sixth to pull away.
Spencer Campion went 2-for-3 with three RBIs to lead Gustavus while Andrew Warren went 2-for-4 with two runs and an RBI for the Cardinals.
In the second game of the doubleheader, SMU jumped out to a 7-1 lead but the game was suspended due to rain.
