Freshman Emily Asuncion (15.65 seconds) and sophomore Kaitlyn Jensen (15.98) each set personal bests in the 100-meter hurdles, finishing in second and third place, respectively, to lead the Warriors to a second-place finish out of eight teams at the Esten Challenge.
The poor weather, the extended delay at the beginning of the meet and the shorter stoppages throughout weren’t anything WSU wasn’t used to.
“The Augustana meet was cold and windy, the Oshkosh meed was cold, and the Eau Claire meet was canceled because of snow,” WSU coach Mason Rebarchek said. “Welcome to track and field in the Midwest.
“We had a lot of cold, wet people, but you have to do what you have to do.”
Nicci Johnson (58.7) placed second and Jennifer Bradford (58.35) third in the 400-meter dash. Jensen also finished third in the long jump (4.98 meters).
Chris Fisette placed second in the triple jump (13.26 meters), and John Vallez finished sixth in the 5,000 run (15:51.60) to lead the St. Mary’s University men’s team to a seventh-place finish.
Sara Harstad finished third in the shot put (11.68 meters), and freshman Brittan Kuehn placed seventh in the 400 dash (61.27) to lead the SMU women to an eight-place finish.
