Eugene J. Waldera Sr.
BLAIR, Wis. — Eugene J. Waldera Sr., 62, of Blair died Wednesday, April 9, 2008, in the Marinuka Manor in Galesville.

Services will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday in Saint Ansgar’s Catholic Church, with burial in the Rest Haven Cemetery, both in Blair.

Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Monday in Jack Funeral Home in Blair, where a Christian prayer service will be held at 7:30 p.m. Visitation one hour prior to the services at the church on Tuesday.

Lu Wayne G. Halverson

SPRING GROVE, Minn. — Lu Wayne G. Halverson, 92, of Spring Grove died Thursday, April 10, 2008, at Tweeten Health Services in Spring Grove.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday at Roble Funeral Home in Spring Grove. Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery in Caledonia, Minn. Friends may call from 1 to 2 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home.

Karen Addleman

Karen Addleman, 66, of Winona died Thursday, April 10, 2008, at St. Mary’s Hospital, Rochester, Minn.

Services entrusted to Fawcett-Junker Funeral Home and Cremation Services of Winona.

David A. Steinfeldt

David A. Steinfeldt, 66, of Winona died Wednesday, April 9, 2008, at his home.

A funeral service will be at 1 p.m. Monday at St. Martin’s Evangelical Lutheran Church. Burial will follow in Pickwick Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Sunday at Watkowski-Mulyck Funeral Home, where a devotion will be held at 6:30 p.m. Visitation will also be held from noon until the time of the service Monday at the church.

Lincoln Jack Harris

Lincoln Jack Harris, smiley and giggly, four month old, born Dec. 6, 2007, passed unexpectedly April 8, 2008.

He is the beloved son of Leah (Meier) and Steve Harris of Cottage Grove; doted on brother of MacKenna, Delaney; big brother Brandon (Jacquie).

Lincoln is further survived by grandparents Charlene Harris of St. Paul Park, Janice and Robert Dornfeld of Winona; many aunts, uncles and cousins.

Lincoln was preceded in death by his grandpas, Terrence Harris and James Meier.

Funeral service 11:30 a.m. Saturday at Community United Church of Christ, 1145 Summit Ave., St. Paul Park. Visitation 4 to 8 p.m. today at Kok Funeral Home, 1201 Portland Ave., St. Paul Park and 9:30 to 11:30 a.m. Saturday at church.

Karen Marie Kunce

Karen Marie Kunce, 55, of 1509 W. Service Drive, Winona, died at her home.

Karen was born Aug. 26, 1952, at Dodge Center, Minn. She graduated from Winona Senior High School. She married Frank Kunce on Sept. 12, 1967, at Keota, Mo.

Karen was a homemaker. She liked to paint, garden and do crafts. She was a member of Central Lutheran Church.

She was preceded in death by her mother, Helen Huwald, on April 9, 2006; and sister, Judy.

Karen is survived by ex-husband, Frank of Winona; father, Fred Huwald of Winona; five children, Sandy (Craig) Weatherhead of Winona, Craig (Jeanna) Kunce of Winona, Kristin (Joel) Luhmann of Rushford, Kelsey Kunce of Winona and Jacob Kunce of Winona; eight grandchildren, Craig, Amanda, Austin, Alex, Savanna, John, Vance and Jack; and four brothers, Don (Deb) Burt of Weston, Wis., Allen (Karen) Burt of Minnesota City, Darwin (Kate) Burt of Fountain City and Gene (Marcia) Burt of Hastings.

Funeral services will be held on Monday, April 14, at 11 a.m. at Central Lutheran Church, with the Rev. Jeff Franko officiating. Burial will be in Woodlawn Cemetery.

Visitation will be held at the church on Monday after 10 a.m. Martin-Myhre Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

James Theodore Biesanz Sr.

May 7, 1921 — April 5, 2008

James Theodore Biesanz Sr., 86, of Indian Wells, Calif., and Winona, died at his home in Indian Wells on April 5, 2008, after a six-month bout with cancer.

Ted was born May 7, 1921, in Minneapolis to Fred and Marion Kimball Biesanz. After graduating from Washburn High School in Minneapolis, he attended Augsburg College before joining the Navy in 1940, where he served as a Seabee in World War II, attaining the rank of chief petty officer.

On March 2, 1946, he married Helen Jacobson of Minneapolis, who preceded him in death in 2002. He is survived by his wife, Dottie Biesanz; sons and daughters-in-laws, Steven and Kathy, Scott and Jane, Jeff and Francie, Ted Jr. and Patti; grandchildren, Jake (Kristin) Biesanz, Matt (Liz) Biesanz, Chris Biesanz, Jill (Mike) Monroe, Jenny Biesanz, Nick (Megan) Biesanz, Samantha (Ben) Zinth, Taylor Snider, Trip, Rory and Molly Biesanz; great-grandchildren, Izzie and Drew Biesanz; a brother, Bob (Frieda) Biesanz; and two stepchildren, Robert (Holly) Lembkey and Terry (Pete) Wollison.

As part of the “greatest generation,” Ted fought in World War II, came home to raise his family and began his business career which led him to Winona as general manager of Lake Center Switch, now TRW. Always looking for new business opportunities, he was instrumental in developing Wincraft and Winona Lighting.

As a community member, Ted willingly and successfully served the YMCA, Winona Chamber of Commerce, AA, Watkins Home, Central Methodist Church and the Winona Country Club. Ted truly cared for people and mentored so many people from all walks of life. He represented courage, leadership, intelligence, determination and compassion. His many friends, associates and loved ones will treasure his memory.

His sons have fond memories of annual trips to the Minnesota State High School basketball tournaments, vacations at Camp Olson and Northern Minnesota as well as days spent together golfing and boating.

In 2004, Ted married Dottie Hubbard, and they enjoyed a wonderful life in Indian Wells and Winona.

A celebration of Ted’s life will be held at his home in Indian Wells on April 23, and a memorial service will be held in Winona at First Congregational Church on May 10 at 2 p.m. A private interment will follow at Woodlawn Cemetery.

Memorials can be made to the Winona YMCA.

Mary Lee Hager

Jan. 22, 1950 — April 7, 2008

GILMANTON, Wis. — Mary Lee Hager, 58, of Gilmanton died Monday, April 7, at Sacred Heart Hospital with her loving family at her side.

She was born Jan. 22, 1950, in Medford, a daughter of Elvin and Esther (Ruesch) Tippelt.

Mary attended schools in Medford, graduating from Medford High School with the class of 1968. She furthered her education in Wausau and became a lab technician. She was employed at Luther Midelfort Clinic as a lab technician.

On April 15, 1972, Mary was united in marriage to Steven Hager in Medford at the United Church of Christ. Following their marriage, Mary became a devoted homemaker and mother of three children whom she so dearly loved through thick and thin.

She loved fishing and raising dairyland miniature horses on the farm. She would take her special horses to different places, such as schools and nursing homes, for people to enjoy. Mary’s most special love was the love she had for her entire family, especially her children and grandchildren.

Mary will be dearly missed by her husband of 36 years, Steven of Gilmanton; three children, Scott Hager of Modena, Dan (Tammy) Hager of Town of Dover and Melissa (Jeremy Brunner) Hager of Durand; four grandchildren, Megan, Vanessa, Laura and Aadin; brother-in-law, Dewey (Kathy) Frey of Medford; also several nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Besides her parents; a sister, Janet Frey, preceded Mary in death.

Funeral services for Mary will be held on Saturday, April 12, at 11 a.m. at the Talbot Family Funeral Home, Alma Chapel, with Pastor Natalie Leske officiating. Cremation will follow with burial of cremains at Gilmanton Cemetery at a later date.

A time of visitation and support will be held today, April 11, from 4 until 7 p.m. and again one hour prior to the funeral service, all at the Talbot Family Funeral Home, Alma Chapel.

Phyllis J. Lechner

April 12, 1931 — April 9, 2008

VALDERS, Wis. — Phyllis J. Lechner, 76, formerly of Valders died Wednesday, April 9, 2008, at Holy Family Memorial Medical Center.

Phyllis was born on April 12, 1931, in Rushford, Minn., daughter of the late Werner and Helen Heiden Bunke. She attended schools in Rushford and graduated with the class of 1949 from Rushford High School.

She then attended St. Olaf College, in Northfield, Minn., graduating with the class of 1953. Phyllis married August Lechner Jr. on Dec. 11, 1960, at Highland Prairie Lutheran Church in Peterson, Minn. He preceded her in death on June 26, 2002.

Phyllis taught high school English for many years. She traveled with Global Volunteers, teaching English to children all around the world. Phyllis was a member of Faith Lutheran Church and the Faith Lutheran Church Women, the Lay School of Ministry and the Wisconsin Friendship Chorus. She was a volunteer in her church and community.

Survivors include three children, Mark (Renee) Lechner, Chula Vista, Calif., Joy (Ryan) Carlson, Manitowoc, Wis., and Jon (Amy) Lechner, Nashville, Tenn.; six grandchildren, Cailin and Maren Lechner, Chula Vista, Calif., Isaac and Adam Carlson, Manitowoc, and Luke and Joshua Lechner, Nashville, Tenn.; one sister and brother-in-law, Vicki (Kenneth) Talbot, Stacy, Minn.; two brothers and sisters-in-law, Norbert (Jeanette) Bunke, Winona, and Myron (Helen) Bunke, Rushford, Minn.; other relatives and friends also survive. She was preceded in death by her parents and husband, August.

A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. on Monday, April 14, at Faith Lutheran Church, 225 Roosevelt St., Valders. The Rev. Bill Gruenstern will officiate. Burial will follow in Gjerpen Cemetery.

Relatives and friends may call from 9 a.m. until the time of service at 11 a.m. on Monday at the church. The Jens Family Funeral Home & Crematory of Manitowoc is assisting the Lechner family.
