Rochester chancellor inaugurated

ROCHESTER, Minn. — The University of Minnesota at Rochester officially has its first chancellor.

He’s Stephen Lehmkuhle, and he was inaugurated Friday evening.

Lehmkuhle says the move represents the new university’s growth toward a unified campus, even though it currently operates out of a shopping mall.

In fall 2007, UMR began offering classes out of the upper floors at the Shops at University Square and currently carries an enrollment of nearly 400 students.

Lehmkuhle says he and his staff will seek to provide a comprehensive college experience for future incoming students with partnerships with local groups.

The university hopes to eventually build its own space in Rochester.

Previously, Lehmkuhle was an administrator in the University of Missouri system.
