Published - Thursday, April 03, 2008 Police Thursday morning, April 3, 2008 Winona Wednesday 2:59 a.m. n Police were dispatched to the downtown Freedom gas station on a report of someone stealing a bundle of wood. Upon arrival, Aaron Paul Rykhus, 23, of Waseca, Minn. admitted taking the bundle worth $4.49 for a camping trip this weekend. He was cited for theft and released. 3:26 p.m. n A 53-year-old man reported damage to his house on Whitten Street. The house is being stored on blocks on a vacant lot, waiting to me moved to Stockton to replace a home there damaged by the August floods. The man reported broken windows, a smashed mirror, a ceiling fan torn off in the kitchen and damage to a faucet, cupboards, ductwork and fixtures. Police are waiting for damage estimates and have no suspects. 6:43 p.m. n Police were called to the Draught Haus bar on East Third Street on a report of a theft. The owner said he was missing $1,400 from a pull tab box and others interviewed on the scene said a man working there earlier had taken the cash. Police issued an attempt to locate alert and the 24-year-old Winonan was found near Sparta, Wis. by the Wisconsin State Patrol. He was taken into custody at 9:03 p.m. and police recovered $145. The man has not yet been charged and police are investigating where the money went. Thursday 12:51 a.m. n The driver of a vehicle stopped in the area of Fifth and Lafayette streets for squealing his tires and speeding got out of his car and fled from police. After a foot chase to the 200 block of East Third Street, he was taken into custody. Police found a marijuana pipe in his pocket and a box containing marijuana in his car. The 19-year-old Winona man was referred to the county attorney’s office for charges of gross misdemeanor drunken driving, fleeing on foot, possession of a small amount of marijuana, possession of drug paraphernalia, underage possession of alcohol, stop sign violation and possession of another person’s ID. The man had a blood-alcohol concentration of 0.20 percent. He has since been released from jail. Winona County Wednesday 9:32 p.m. n Deputies were called to the Dog Patch Bar & Grill in Troy, Minn. on a report of an assault. The 30-year-old victim said he intervened when another man was arguing with a woman in the bar. The other man threw the victim to the ground and hit him in the nose. The victim reported hurting his arm when he fell. Police are awaiting medical records to see if charges should be pursued.
