Community engagement grants announced

Daily News staff reports The Winona Health Foundation awarded grants totaling $21,200 through its competitive grant program.
The following organizations received a Winona Health Foundation Community Engagement Grant during this grant cycle: Community Engagement GrantsCatholic Charities Diocese of Winona will receive $12,000 for its medication application service. This program provides assistance to help people gain access to free prescription medicine, which may help prevent those people from needing emergency room care or hospitalization.
Winona Area Public Schools will receive $4,800 to purchase automatic electronic defibrillators for the Winona Middle School.
The Winona Area Public Schools Nursing 2.0 project will receive $4,400 to equip school nurses with laptop computers to help streamline the record keeping as they travel between schools.
Quality and Excellent Grants
Additional funding was awarded through Winona Health Foundation’s Quality and Excellence Grant program, which allocates up to $50,000 to Winona Health departments or teams. The following proposals received grants:
nWinona Health’s Department of Behavioral Medicine received a $1,000 grant to purchase supplies to enhance patient activities in the Department of Behavioral Medicine’s inpatient unit.
Winona Health’s Occupational Health Services received a $3,545 grant for staff to attend an ergonomics workshop.
Watkins Manor’s Therapeutic Recreation Department received a $500 grant to purchase a Wii game
console to increase recreation opportunities for residents.
The Cardiac Rehabilitation Department received a $3,800 grant for a video headphone system to enhance patient education. In addition to receiving and reviewing printed materials with Cardiac Rehabilitation staff, patients will be able to view educational videos about maintaining their health during their exercise sessions.
Grant applications are reviewed semi-annually. To be considered for the next cycle, please submit applications by June 30.
