Walz Buick of Winona absorbed the Chevrolet automotive brand from Underdahl Chevrolet Monday morning.
The entire Chevy franchise, including the vehicle fleet, service and parts, will move across town starting Monday from Underdahl on Hwy. 61 to the Walz lot on Third Street, said Butch Walz, owner of the Buick, Pontiac and GMC dealer-ship.
Underdahl will continue its sales and service of Toyota, he said.
“I hope it means great things for their customers, and we’re just tickled to have the Chevrolet brand. It’s been an icon in America,” Walz said. “We’ll have a broader selection of vehicles, especially fuel-economy conscience vehicles like the Cobalt and new Malibu hybrid.”
The transfer is part of a national General Motors realignment initiative to franchise costs in towns under 50,000, Walz said. The last initiative of this kind was in 1997, where Walz took over the Pontiac brand, Walz said.
