The group of about a dozen volunteers looks to add eight to 10 people to its ranks this year, said posse member Scott Miller.
He’s been on the posse for about two years and said he likes the job because he can help the community while spending time with his horse.
Some annual patrolling duties and events include the county fair, Steamboat Days, the Heroes Among Us banquet and the Lewiston Fools’ Five.
The posse also conducts search-and-rescue missions during the summer. Last year, they helped out with a drowning near La Crosse, Wis., and aided authorities during the aftermath of the August floods, Miller said.
To be a member, one must be at least 18, have access to a horse and trailer, live within 30 miles of Winona and complete a background check. Those interested in volunteering are invited to pick up an application at the Law Enforcement Center, first floor, 201 W. Third St.
