Vikings pull upset, top MSU-Mankato

Augustana scored the first upset of the North Central Region tournament Saturday, coming from behind to beat Minnesota State-Mankato.

The sixth-seeded Vikings, who trailed by nine points at halftime, rallied in the second half for a 95-87 victory at McCown Gymnasium.

Augustana will face No. 2 seed Northern State at 5 p.m. Sunday in the second round.

The Vikings tied the game twice midway through the second half and finally took a 76-75 lead with 7:23 remaining on a jumper by Eric Krogman.

MSU tied the game 76-76 and 80-80 before the Vikings pulled away in the final five minutes. Augustana (22-8) made 19 of 27 free throws to help it hold on for the win.

Corey McIntosh, a transfer from Iowa, State, scored 28 points to lead the Vikings, while Krogman added 24 points and 10 rebounds. Marques Blank, a guard from Holmen, Wis., had 11 points and Tom VerDouw 10.

Jake Morrow and Atila Santos each scored 18 points for the Mavericks (22-7). MSU made just 18 of 36 free throws.
