WSU fell to Lynn 10-3 for its first loss of the season.
With the game in a scoreless tie in the bottom of the fifth inning, Lynn’s bats awoke in a big way.
Lynn roughed up WSU starter Bryan Ruff for six runs before an out was recorded and added another on five hits in the inning to take a 7-0 lead.
“We played well for most of the game,” Warriors coach Kyle Poock said. “We had one bad inning. We had a couple of errors and we didn’t execute.”
WSU (1-1) had its chances, but couldn’t crack Lynn starter Craig Sheets. Sheets pitched seven innings, gave up no runs on six hits, struck out six and walked two.
The Warriors left runners in scoring position in the first, third, fourth and fifth innings.
“We had guys on but we couldn’t get them in,” Poock said. “We hit the ball well but couldn’t get hits when we needed them.”
Ronnie Olson and Mike Wendland had two hits and an RBI apiece for WSU.
Gabe MacDougall went 2-for-4 with 4 RBIs, including a home run in the eight inning for Lynn (9-7).

ORLANDO, Fla. — After giving up a combined 19 runs Saturday in a doubleheader to Lake Superior State, WSU put it together Sunday.
“It was night and day,” Warriors coach Greg Jones said. “The difference yesterday was that we couldn’t get strike one. Today we got ahead in counts, got some strike outs and kept them off balance. We were in control on the mound.”
WSU lost the first game of its doubleheader Sunday 3-2 in 10 innings against St. Leo but rebounded in the second game to pick up its first win of the season.
“In the first game, we played well enough to win but it just didn’t happen,” Jones said. “It came together in the second game. We had some timely and clutch hits.”
In the second game, Katie Maultra had a three-run home run and Karyn Koehnle had a two RBI double in the seventh inning.
