Everyone parents differently, I know that I may allow my children to do things that others would say “no way” to. A pizza for breakfast — dairy, vegetable and grains, why not?
However, this week I take my cue from Jay Leno and the headlines he highlights. There were two recent parenting stories that made me cringe and really wonder, “What were they thinking?”
I think most parents would agree.
The first is a story from Rochester, N.Y., where on Wednesday a seven-month pregnant woman attacked a bartender who told her she could have no more to drink. The crazy part is that the bartender didn’t cut her off because she was pregnant, but because it was closing time. After being told she could have no more, 30-year-old Keisharra Larae Abercrombie reportedly flew into a rage and smashed a beer bottle and glass over the server’s ear and head, causing serious injury to the server.
Abercrombie, who admitted to being pregnant, felt she was “disrespected” when the server told her, “she shouldn’t be drinking anyway because she is pregnant.” Hormones.
Though, when I was pregnant the only time I wanted to attack was when I was out of cinnamon ice cream and apple pie!
The next story happened in December when Maria Antonia Mendez, a 28-year-old mother in California, provided laughing gas (nitrous oxide) to her son and his friends.
Ironically, this wasn’t for a special occasion, her 13-year-old son and friends just didn’t like school and started skipping. Mendez didn’t mind as long as they were at her house.
To make the days a real party, she then provided balloons and the gas and the children sucked the gas out similar to a helium balloon. It didn’t take school officials long to catch up with Mendez and the kids.
What were these moms thinking?
I’ve always thought moms should work together and not judge, but it is awfully hard to support a pregnant bar brawler and laughing gas mommy.
I will stick with those, like myself, who occasionally open the pizza box for breakfast. It seems much safer and definitely legal.
