The 23-year-old’s attorney demanded a jury trial that was scheduled to begin April 21.
Henderson was charged with domestic assault Jan. 28 from an incident involving his girlfriend early Jan. 27. According to the police report, officers were dispatched to
the victim’s apartment at 4:41 a.m. The 22-year-old told them Henderson pushed her into a couch twice, and she fell backwards and hit her head on either the back of the couch or a nearby wall. Officers discovered two lumps on her head consistent with her account, according to police.
The officers then visited Henderson at his apartment. According to the report, Henderson said he acted in self defense because she jumped over a coffee table and tried to kick him. After conferring with each other, the officers then decided to arrest Henderson, the report states.
Henderson is charged with two counts of domestic assault — one for causing fear and one for causing harm. Both misdemeanors are punishable by up to 90 days in jail and a $1,000 fine. Because of double jeopardy laws, he can only be convicted on one charge.
Henderson was released from Winona County Jail following his initial appearance in January. He is scheduled for a pretrial hearing April 7.
