Kirk Cordell Glann, 23, was given 273 days credit for time served since he was arrested shortly after the break-in. He will be eligible for parole in four years. As part of a plea agreement, prosecutors dropped 17 other charges of assault, robbery and kidnapping.
Glann appeared in Winona County District Court Wednesday afternoon, hoping to see his family. However, bad weather over the past 24 hours prevented them from attending. Judge Jeffrey Thompson pledged to “drag our feet a little bit” before sending Glann to state prison so his family has a chance to meet with him. Winona County Attorney Chuck MacLean said that transport probably wouldn’t happen until next week and should leave plenty of time for Glann’s family to come to Winona.
According to testimony given Nov. 1, Glann and an accomplice, Jacob Paul Semling, 21, entered an apartment near West King and Cummings streets on May 1, 2007, wielding a pellet gun and a bike chain as weapons. Both testified they intended to steal drugs or money.
Once inside, one of six occupants was hit with the chain and a struggle ensued, according to the criminal complaint. Glann and Semling fled but were apprehended by police about a block away.
Semling has entered into an identical plea agreement as Glann. He was originally scheduled to be sentenced Wednesday as well, but that was postponed because his public defender, Ross Phelps, has recently retired. Semling will now be sentenced March 27.
