Police ask for help in sledding accident

The Trempealeau County Sheriff’s Department is asking for the public’s help wrapping up its investigation of a hit-and-run accident Sunday that killed a 5-year-old boy in Arcadia, Wis.

Chief Deputy Brian Puent said his department is looking for any witnesses who may have seen “activities prior to, during and following” the accident.

Specifically, they’re looking for anyone who had contact with the driver, Robert Kreibich, or who may have seen an early 1990s model blue or gray Buick Century sedan he was allegedly driving at the time of the accident.

The sheriff’s department is putting together a timeline of events and is continuing to investigate what happened Sunday afternoon, including whether alcohol was a factor, Puent said.

At about 3:13 p.m., Matthew McKay was sledding near his home on Soppa Road east of Arcadia when he slid into the road and was hit by a passing car. McKay died at the scene.

Kreibich, 50, accused of hitting the boy, did not stop, according to sheriff reports, but was later arrested on suspicion of felony hit-and-run causing a death. He is in the Trempealeau County Jail on $100,000 cash bail awaiting charges.

Anyone with information regarding the incident is encouraged to call the sheriff’s department at (715) 538-4351.
