Alma, Fountain City to elect new mayors

.
Alma and Fountain City voters will elect new mayors in April.

Fountain City will begin with a primary on Feb. 19, in which voters will choose among three candidates running for mayor.
The candidates are Karl Hoffmann, Theresa V. McCamley and Sally Stiever.

Fountain City Mayor Carl Brommerich is not running for re-election.

Stiever is a nurse’s aid, Hoffmann is a county sheriff’s deputy and McCamley is retired and a first ward alderperson serving as city council president.

One of the three candidates will be eliminated in the Feb. 19 runoff. The other two will move on to compete in the spring election on April 1.

Alma Mayor Lois Balk is calling it quits as mayor after one term in office. She previously served as an alderperson and city council president.

Second-Ward Alderperson Corey Hanson will likely be elected in April.

Hanson, 28, is running for mayor unopposed on the ballot. He’s been on the city council for three years.

Buffalo City Mayor Bill Bruegger is running unopposed for re-election to a two-year term as mayor. He’s been mayor for the past 18 years.

Incumbent at-large alderpersons Dan Wicka and Brach Seitz are up for re-election to two-year terms in April. They’re running unopposed.

In other alderperson elections, second ward incumbent David Earney filed for re-election to a three-year term without opposition.

Anthony Boutin filed candidacy in the first ward in which incumbent Jack Thrailkill is not seeking re-election.

In Fountain City, Jay Baures filed candidacy for a three-year alderperson seat in the first ward.

Baures is unopposed. McCamley currently has the seat. Ben Adank took out candidacy papers, but did not file.

In the second ward, incumbent Duane Duellman filed for re-election to a three-year term unopposed.

Two three-year at-large seats on the Cochrane-Fountain City School Board are up for election on April 1.

Two candidates filed for election, incumbent Charlie Krueger and former school board member Jo Frances Ressie.

Tom Rothering of Cochrane, the board’s current school board president, did not file for re-election.

" Both Lois Balk and Carl Brommerich have done a good job in heading their respective cities. Carl is now retired from the government and working in private security. Lois retired from teaching. Both deserve a big thank you.

Fountain City has some choices to make. Do we want a mayor that has been a resident for years or someone that is moving into town to run for the job. It is your choice. Vote with your head. This is an important position and loyalty to the community should count. "

" Why was Corey Hanson's age the only one mentioned in this article? "
