Pfeilsticker pleads guilty to DWI

.
Winona Senior High School social studies teacher and state House of Representatives candidate Linda Pfeilsticker pleaded guilty to drunken driving in Wabasha County District Court Monday.

Pfeilsticker, 36, was convicted and ordered to pay a $400 fine and $257 in court fees. She paid both balances Monday.
Judge Jeff Thompson, who divides his time between Wabasha and Winona County courthouses, also put Pfeilsticker on unsupervised probation for a year.

According to police reports, Pfeilsticker drove off of Highway 60 near her Wabasha home around 1:30 a.m. on Dec. 9. A Wabasha County sheriff’s deputy who helped her get the vehicle out of the ditch noticed she was under the influence of alcohol.

Pfeilsticker failed field sobriety tests and was found to have a blood-alcohol concentration of 0.17 percent, more than twice the legal driving limit. She was cited for misdemeanor drunken driving.

Pfeilsticker apologized in a letter to the editor on Dec. 21 for her “poor choice.” She is currently running for State House seat 28B and said this incident will not affect her candidacy.

" El Uno...it's called stooping to your level. And I am guilty as charged. Responding to your specific finger-pointing toward me. As I mentioned, and you ignored, there have been 3 articles regarding this situation. All have had forum discussions. I was involved in those previous ones, stated my opinions and contributed to intelligent debate. But you accused me of otherwise, so I put you in your place as you attempted to do with me. Tit for tat. Don't start it and you won't get it in return. I promise you that. Offer me unaccusatory responses and you will get the same from me. "

" Me on my high horse??? You're the one who came riding in to tell us how worthless our thoughts were. As for me adding to the discussion.... give some real news and maybe you'll get some "real" responses. A teacher made a mistake, big deal. Her first mistake was getting a job in joke of district. "

charlatan wrote on Jan 9, 2008 6:07 PM:

" El Uno...quit being a punk (there, did that "add" enough for you?). If you paid any attention to all of the forums regarding this situation, you would see what I have offered in terms of the discussion. I've had plenty to say on the matter. Get off your high horse and contribute something of worth. "

" So I've been pondering this... anyone wanna have a WDN Commentators Meet-Up? We could all go chill and have a drink at some place nice like Jeffersons and not reveal who we actually are till the end! I think it would be a blast! Especially if I made it out of there alive... "

El Uno wrote on Jan 9, 2008 5:09 PM:

" charlatan - if you want a debate go join a club.... We are so sorry that this forum is not up to your intellectual standards but remind me what you've added to the discussion on Linda? Or did you just come on here to write whatever little thought popped in your head like everyone else? I'm sure in your mind it was noble, but to the rest of us it just blends in with the "crap" we're posting. "

PerfectStranger wrote on Jan 9, 2008 4:52 PM:

" Most comments here on the WDN Online edition are TAME compared to other comment boards - sports comments boards in particular. This is mostly a 'place' locals go to vent at each other, or to whine, cry and snivel, or to express exaspiration at the antics of other locals. It's a place where you can rip on someone else for their stupidity, while saying to yourself, "There but for the grace of God go I." It's not a forum for the people who get things DONE, it's where the critics come to sound off about what's wrong with - whatever. "

PerfectStranger wrote on Jan 9, 2008 4:43 PM:

" When the Daily News first added the ability to post comments, I expected a mix of insightful, informative comments and infantile blather. There was a time when that was the case, but the trolls took over even before registration was required. Since then, it seems to me that the trolls and such have taken over. The intellectual discourse happens on local blog sites, not here. Free speech allows anyone to write anything they want here, as long as it meets WDN guidelines, passes through the filtering, or as long as they don't notice your violation. It is what it is. If you can't beat 'em, join 'em... "

charlatan wrote on Jan 9, 2008 4:34 PM:

" I'm going to agree with xfs on this...these forums are a bunch of crap. Nothing but people anonymously bashing other people. I'd love to hear what positive purpose the Winona Daily News believes is being served by this. I sincerely believe in freedom of speech, but I also believe in common decency. There's little of it here. Too many people suddenly become brave behind their usernames. How nice it would be to have respectful debate. Doesn't seem that Winona is capable. "

CT Rock wrote on Jan 9, 2008 4:15 PM:

" Well everyone, it appears ol' man xfc has spoken. Everyone bow down and heed ol' man xtc's rant .. us newbies will just sit in a corner and sulk while xtc and his good ol' boys discuss the topics in proper fashion. "

xfs-123 wrote on Jan 9, 2008 4:13 PM:

" Ever since a few newbies signed up for this forum, the discussions wander farther away from the news articles. One idiot does nothing but complain about drunken college kids but now says this in regards to Pfeilsticker: "It happens, people drink and drive, so what! Lay off the poor lady!" Something wrong with that mentality as well as the utter contradiction of his normal rant. And who gives a s**t about whether a screen name seems gay or not. Grow up for cripe sake! I used to read the comments to get different views or opinions on the topics, now there is little of that, only moronic, off topic drivel. "

" Trymaleagain said: This can be a teachable moment for Winona Senior High.

What a joke. Throughout this whole ordeal you have continued to miss the teachable moment that WAS seized. Taking responsibilty for your actions, admission to wrondoing, addressing the students personally and setting an example of how you deal with the times that you screw up. What is done is done. It's what you do after the fact that is lasting. "

Where is Winona anyway, what state is this in? "

CT Rock wrote on Jan 9, 2008 12:24 PM:

" If someone from MADD were on here they would be very madd at some of the people (like me) who seemingly dismiss drunk driving as something many people do. hahaha

Hey ando you must be a very good driver! or a very new driver... either way, no offenses, thats pretty nifty "

ANDO1 wrote on Jan 9, 2008 11:53 AM:

" It seems to me that the lady was on her own time, away from the school district, and not even in the same county where she works. This offense, while serious enough, has nothing to do with school operations or students. You can call it a bad choice for sure, but not job or school related. If anyone who got a DUI had to be accountable to their employer, a lot of people would be out of jobs. And, no, I've never had any driving offenses. "

dildo baggins wrote on Jan 9, 2008 11:50 AM:

" I don't think linda is gay, she just got caught doing what every person that drinks alcohol does... drive drunk.

What's you're problem, trymaleagain? Why are you being so defensive? Are you insecure about your sexual orientation or something?

"

" Try's name is a bit confusing. Is he now a she that wants to be a male again? Is he a guy that experimenting with a guy once and is considering trying it again? Or is it a lesbian who may go back to liking guys again? The whole name is just perplexing. "

Trymaleagain wrote on Jan 9, 2008 8:53 AM:

" I am talking about an adminstrative policy. For instance, if a teacher inappropriately "touches" a student - is there a school policy for how to handle that situation? Likewise, is there a policy for criminal convictions? This can be a teachable moment for Winona Senior High. If there is a void in the policy manual, this unfortunate incident can be used as a best practice for improvement. I am not saying what the policy should be ONLY they need to draft one if one does not already exist. This is a School Board issue. They need to set the precedent, hopefully with the input of parents/taxpayers. "

J.D. wrote on Jan 9, 2008 8:35 AM:

" Try ~ You really need to get over this. She is human just like the rest of us and made a poor judgement call. I'm not sure why you have so much hatred towards this woman, but you need help dealing with it. I admire her for standing up and facing her mistake. And I hate to tell you, but there are worse things done by teachers in our school district than drinking and driving. "
