Hoffmann running for Fountain City mayor

A Buffalo County sheriff’s deputy has entered the election race for mayor of Fountain City. Karl Hoffmann filed intent to run Dec. 19 when he took out nomination papers.

Fountain City Council President Theresa V. McCamley announced her candidacy for mayor Dec. 3.

A third candidate, Sally Stiever, also took out papers for mayor, but had not yet declared intent to run for the office, according to City Clerk Janet LaDuke.

Mayor Carl Brommerich is not running for re-election. He leaves office in April after the spring election.

If more than two candidates file by the Jan. 2 deadline, there would be a run-off primary Feb. 19.

Hoffmann, of Buffalo City, who formerly lived in Fountain City and owns property there, said Dec. 18 that he was moving back to Fountain City.

Hoffmann ran in 2006 for Buffalo County sheriff, losing in the Republican primary to eventual winner Mike Schmidtknecht. He was also a candidate earlier this year for the top police officer in Fountain City, a job that is again vacant after the city council fired the last chief.
